Take your wellies for walking, lots of wildlife and nature reserves with lots of hidden footpaths to follow.
No need to pack your bikes – there are some at the cottages, free for you to use to explore Oxfordshire.
Pack light as bedding, towels (including swimming towels) and toiletries from The White Company are all provided.

From cosy cottages sleeping two, to large family houses sleeping 10 (plus room for camp beds and cots) there will be something to suit every family’s needs at Bruern. All 12 cottages are beautifully appointed and offer the freedom of self-catering with the service and quality you would expect from a luxury hotel.

The ‘essentials' equipment list is more than covered in each cottage – wide screen tv, Sky, books, board games and dvds are the in-house entertainment. All cottages have either open fires or ceramic stoves keeping them super snug in the colder months, and outdoor space to enjoy when the weather permits.

Eat

Essentials (and not so essential treats) are provided for your first night. You’ll find milk, butter, eggs and sausages waiting for you, along with a few little luxuries like champagne, homemade cakes and local artisan cheese.

The kitchens in the cottages are all well-equipped with microwaves, fridges, freezers, mixers, blenders, plus washing machines and dryers. But if you want to eat out there are loads of options nearby including multi-award winning pub The Plough at Kingham just 10 minutes from the cottages.

Activities

Bruern is a paradise for children, with three playgrounds, a play cabin, a wendy house, toy cars and bicycles for every child and in every size – and above all – other children. For tweens, teens (and maybe older-than-teens), there’s a games room with pool, table tennis and table football and an XBox and PS4.

The gardens are simply stunning with almost all of the estate planned out with a passion for landscape and an eye for detail. And for those looking to unwind indoors there is the swimming pool, gym and spa. Cited by Tatler in 2009 as one of the “101 best spas in the world”, here you can book reflexology, massages, pedicures, manicures and facials.

Accessibility

Newmarket cottage is wheelchair friendly, with a paved path up to the front door and with a downstairs bedroom, wider doors and en-suite shower room.

Where is it and how do you get there?

By Road

Bruern Cottages are approximately 15 minutes drive from Chipping Norton and less than an hour from Oxford along the A40.

By Air

Birmingham Airport is just over one hour drive from Bruern. Heathrow is around a 90 minutes drive.

By Rail

Kingham Station is a five minute drive with trains every hour to London.

I first started converting the properties on this historic estate in 1992 and now welcome returning guests year on year to our unique cottages, where we offer the comfort and attention to detail of a good hotel, combined with the privacy, independence and space of home.

Owner recommendations

Take a walk around the park, visit all the animals and enjoy the lovely grounds at Cotswold Wildlife Park.
Book onto horse riding lessons or a wonderful hack at Bourton Vale Equestrian Centre or Cotswold Riding.
Visit Warwick Castle and take in the beauty of the landscaped Capability Brown gardens, brave the medieval vaults and cheer on the jousters.
Just 20 minutes drive from Bruern Cottages, Blenheim Palace & Gardens is a true Baroque masterpiece to discover with lots to do with children.
Hidcote Manor is a must-see during your holidays and it will be a perfect day out for garden lovers and a good spot to observe the wildlife of the North Cotswolds.
The Cotswold water park is a great place to be able to enjoy a range of water activities without being in a coastal area.
