We bought Budle Bay Croft as a wreck in 2007 and have been restoring it ever since! We welcome all families of all shapes and configurations to Budle Bay Croft. There is lots of space to run and laugh, kick leaves, plodge in the river, ghost hunt in the woods at Halloween, toast marshmallows, interact with the animals and just all round get some fresh clean air into the lungs!

We work hard so that you don't have to – and we realised as parents ourselves, if the kids are happy, the adults are too!

Owner recommendations

  • The Farne Islands are fun. Wrap up warm and take a boat trip from Seahouses to go baby seal, dolphin and even puffin spotting.

  • Spy on the seals basking in the sun at quiet Ross Beach. Beadnell Beach is where to head for water sports – it’s full of enthusiasts and busier than most of the other beaches.

  • Wallington Hall is well worth a visit, as is Howick Hall and Garden – where Earl Grey tea was created.

  • Heatherslaw Light Railway is worth a trip, as is the Aln Railway from Alnwick to Alnmouth (another lovely little village).

  • Nearby soft play and crazy golf in Seahouses is good fun, as well as boat trips for fishing, puffin and seal watching or even diving with the seals.

  • Explore the majestic Bamburgh Castle with breathtaking views from the top – look up the seasonal family activities they put on before you arrive.

  • The Cheviot Hills are on the doorstop and offer a nice contrast to the coast.

  • Try quidditch at Alnwick Castle and jump in the water features at The Alnwick Garden.

  • Cragside is an interesting National Trust property with the first examples of hydropower, a nice cafe and playground, plus lovely walks.
