About the owners

Mai & Richard

Cefn Ceiriog is home to us, our children, our grandchildren and quite a few animals. We fell in love with the beautiful Ceiriog Valley over twenty years ago and made Cefn Ceiriog our family home. Our conversion of the barn and the stables has allowed us to share our hillside home with guests from all around the world. We also share it with a dog, a cluck of chickens, a couple of adorable Shetland ponies and a few goats, as well as the most glorious dawn chorus you are ever likely to hear. Back in 1923 the Ceiriog Valley was due to be flooded as a reservoir and was only saved by the intercession of the prime minister, Lloyd George. He described the valley as "a little piece of heaven on earth." We agree, and we feel sure you will too.

Owner recommendations

  • Our children and grand children love having a ride on the steam train up the beautiful vale of Llangollen, just over the hill from us - and sometimes Thomas the Tank Engine even pays a visit!

  • We love visiting the local market town of Oswestry and dropping in for a coffee and a browse in Booka, an award winning independent bookshop, with a great range of children's books.  Also in Oswestry is Kinokulture, our comfortable, friendly and quirky community cinema.

  • Animal lovers will find fascinating encounters at the wonderful Chester Zoo, while just up the road children of all ages love meeting the animals close up for petting and feeding at Park Hall Farm.

  • The Ceiriog Trail is a wonderful walking trail that takes you all around our beautiful valley and can be tried as a major hike or in little expeditions.
