About the owners

Topher Nairn

Listed since November 2024

Lochend has been family-owned and family-run since 1958 when Grandma and Grandpa Abell set up a park for caravans. In 1974, mother, Irene, and father, Jimmy Nairn, bought the place and put in the first self-catering chalets overlooking the beautiful Lake of Menteith.

Keeping the family tradition alive, the youngest son Topher, bought the business upon their retirement in 1987. In 1996, Victoria, and her husband Chris, a keen woodsman, joined the business too. Bunty, Cooper, and Pippin all work in the business now in various capacities. Recently, Lochend hired a new General Manager, Karin Chisholm, to finally complete the team.

As a family, our whole life is Lochend. We know how lucky we are to live here by the Lake of Menteith and want to pass on the appreciation to those who come for a holiday or mini break here. We're dedicated to making sure our guests experience it as positively as we do, so we spend a lot of time keeping the place looking good.

Older brother, Nick Nairn, also set up his now acclaimed Cook School and family restaurant on the estate. It's a stylish, state-of-the-art facility and a 5-star attraction with lots of outdoor seating. Nick's wife, Julia, has also set up a lovely lifestyle shop that you can mooch around when you're there.

Owner recommendations

  • Cooking classes – while at Lochend, enrolling in a cook school class with Nick is an absolute must!

  • Massage and Facials – indulge in a relaxing massage or facial from the privacy and comfort of your cabin or chalet.

  • Lake activities – you can enjoy multiple lake activities on Menteith. Reserve paddle boarding, kayaking, and canoeing equipment from Roll Outdoors and enjoy some family fun on the waters, with lessons provided if required.

  • Bike Hire – hiring a bike is a great way to explore the breathtaking natural beauty of the area.

  • Soaking up the peace – on a quiet corner of the lake, Lochend is the perfect destination to simply kick back, relax, and soak up some peace with your family.
