Pagel was created with families with small kids in mind. Run by Géraldine and Cyril it’s a child-focused mini-resort of five family gîtes in the Lot, South-West France, designed so anyone arriving with a baby, toddler or little explorer has what they need to stay calm and enjoy the break. Think heated pool, play zones, animals and a kids’ club — plus a bar, bread delivery and babysitting when parents fancy a breather.

Pagel is somewhere you can tell the owners have travelled with small kids. The gîtes come with toys and books already in place, so children settle quickly — and there’s a proper “pack lighter” approach running through everything with a long list of baby/toddler kit available (strollers, baby monitor, changing mat, baby bath, high chair, booster seat, potty bits and more).

Living spaces

These are proper family bases: the layouts are built around being in and out all day — breakfast, pool, snacks, nap attempts, back outside, early dinner… repeat. And because you’re in a small hamlet of just a few gîtes, it has that mini-resort feel without the big-hotel energy.

Bedrooms & bathrooms

There are five gîtes on site: Upper Sunset (sleeps 5), Lower Sunset (sleeps 5), Upper Wildwood (sleeps 5), Lower Wildwood (sleeps 6) and Wisteria (sleeps 4).

🏡 Which gîte suits us?

Upper Sunset (5) — First floor, gorgeous open views and a covered terrace that’s made for slow evenings outside.
Lower Sunset (5) — Ground-floor and right by the playground, so it’s brilliant with babies/toddlers who want to dip in and out of play.
Upper Wildwood (5) — Near the pool, with a terrace where you can do breakfast outside while watching the children on the swings/sandpit.
Lower Wildwood (6) —The bigger family option (or great for bringing grandparents). Ground-floor, roomy, and set up for a fuller house.
Wisteria (4) — A sweet, smaller base — ground-floor and a great fit with younger kids who want quick garden/play access and an easy base for naps.

Outside space: Big outdoor space is the whole point here — gardens and woodland, play areas dotted around, animals to visit, and plenty of spots for parents to sit with a coffee while kids disappear into their own games.

Eat

This is self-catering first — and the kitchens are properly equipped (dishwasher/oven/microwave/fridge-freezer, etc.), which matters when you’re feeding small people three times a day - breakfast-before-play and quick family dinners won’t feel like hard work.

Then Pagel quietly adds the bits that give you a little more breathing space. You can order bread and pastries for breakfast, there’s a bar on site, and during school holidays there are three meal options per week — which is basically the dream on the nights you can’t face cooking.

For eating out, you’ve got a good spread close by. On lake days, the Snack du Lac Vert de Catus is the easy win — pizzas, paninis, fries, waffles, ice creams and crepes served through the day — and in the evenings La Cabane aux Planches takes over with simple sharing boards. If you head into Cahors, Chez Suzanne is a lovely independent spot by Pont Valentré (and it’s flagged as kid-friendly), and Gambetta Bistro is a solid, bistro-style option in town. And if you fancy one properly special grown-up meal while you’re in the Lot, Le Gindreau is the “make a thing of it” one.

Top tip: go early, keep it simple, and book ahead in peak weeks — nobody needs a hangry dinner mission on holiday.

Activities

One of the real wins at Pagel is how much you can do without leaving the site — which is exactly what you want with small kids when plans change hourly. You’ve got five acres to explore, so children can run, play and potter about without you having to “go somewhere” to burn energy.

Pool time is a daily fixture here. There’s a large heated swimming pool with a terrace surrounded by security fencing, plus a separate small heated toddler pool for the splashy stage (and for parents who’d rather not spend the day doing deep-end patrol).

Play-wise, Pagel has gone all in — in the best way. There are masses of good-quality toys and play zones around the site, including a giant play barn, plus all the classic favourites: climbing frames, sand pits, swings, slides and trampolines. It’s the kind of set-up where kids keep finding “one more thing” to do and you can actually sit down.

Kids’ Club (school holidays)

Pagel’s Kids’ Club is for children aged 3–8 and runs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, with a fun mix of crafts, treasure hunts, outdoor games and messy play — plus a relaxed Wednesday lunch session. Groups are capped at eight children, so it stays small and personal. It’s paid (from €15–€20 per session), and it’s worth booking early if your dates fall in peak weeks.

Out and about – brilliant family days nearby

When you do want a change of scene, the Lot is full of low-effort wins. The Green Lake of Catus is close for swimming and easy water fun, and Cahors is great for a wander and a bit of “real France” without turning it into a big day.

If you’re up for something more memorable, Padirac and Rocamadour are the headline day out — the kind of outing that feels like a proper adventure, then you come home and everyone collapses happily by the pool.

Accessibility

Dependent on the level of mobility there is one gite which is accessible by wheelchair. However, the grounds are undulating and further assistance may be needed.

Where is it and how do you get there?

By Road

Pagel is a half hour drive north of Cahors. From Calais the road trip will take around 10 hours, or alternatively less than 6 hours from Bilbao.

By Air

Toulouse and Bergerac airports are both less than 90 minutes drive from Pagel.

By Rail

Cahors and Gourdon are both approximately 30 minutes away and have stations served by intercity trains on the Paris to Toulouse line.

In the local village you’ll find Le Lac Vert in Catus - a beautiful lake with a man made beach with pedalos, restaurant and play equipment.
Cap Nature is a fantastic high roped climbing park next to the river in Cahors.
Walk through the park at Foret de Singe near Rocamadour, and meet the local monkeys.
For a great inside adventure 100 metres below ground head to Gouffre de Padirac – take a lift, then a Gondola type boat along the river and into the magical caves.
Hire canoes from Le Base Nautique de Caix - lots of beautiful scenery, beaches and a restaurant by the riverside.
