Smallicombe is a family friendly working farm near the Jurassic coast. Set in 70 acres of pasture and ancient woodland and nestled in an idyllic valley near Honiton here you can spend your days collecting eggs or feeding pigs and you'll have the chance to roam the woodlands and spot rare wildlife in their native habitat. At the end of a busy day you're sure to sleep soundly in your cosy self-catering holiday cottage, perfect for your family break.

Rooms

Old stone barns have been tastefully converted into family holiday accommodation comprising four 4*Gold self-catering child friendly cottages and three 4*Gold award winning family B&B rooms; perfect for a fun farm-stay break.

The 4 self-catering cottages retain their original character and sleep from 2-6. They all have well-equipped kitchens and comfy living spaces with TVs, DVD players and wifi. The Granary (sleeps 4) and Cider Barn (sleeps 6) both have access to a secluded garden. The Inglenook is a delightful property, adjacent to the farmhouse and is perfect for a couple with one child. The Hayloft has been recently converted from the upper floor of the old barn and offers luxury penthouse accommodation ideal for a couple.

B&B accommodation is arranged to meet your specific needs. There are 2 suites in The Shippon, sleeping 2 with room for a cot, and a wonderful family suite in The Farmhouse sleeping 2 adults and 2 children. And you'll be delighted with the delicious farmhouse award winning breakfast.

Eat

The self-catering properties have fully equipped kitchens. Pop to the farm shop and pick up some rare breed meat and eggs produced from the farm for yummy family meals. There is also a pub and a supermarket within 10 minutes drive. On warm summer evenings head to the communal BBQ area for cooking and dining al fresco.

Smallicombe’s award winning breakfast is served to B&B guests. Those staying in the cottages needn’t miss out though as cooked breakfast platters can be delivered to your door.

Activities

Enjoy picking a freshly laid egg for your breakfast from the resident hens, cuddle the guinea pigs and become acquainted with the resident sheep, cows, pigs and ducks then play chase with Dizzy the dog.

The owners are keen for little ones to help with feeding the farm animals, if they show an interest, and full farm experience mornings can be arranged for those who want to throw themselves into farm-life.

Smallicombe is renowned for its prize winning Rare Breed pigs and as they farrow throughout the year there are usually litters of cute piglets, which are a delight to all. For those super keen to own their own rare breed pig courses are available.

Lambing takes place at Smallicombe in February, where you easily spot newborn lambs and their mums.

Take the fairy farm trail along the river and over bluebell-carpeted woodland. Spend the afternoon playing pooh sticks in the brook, going ape on the rope swings, building dens, or grab a net and bucket and head to the pond. The small play area near the dining room is perfect for toddlers with a sandpit and slides, whilst the larger area has a pirate ship, climbing wall, basket swing and sunken trampoline - great for older children. You can also borrow badminton and croquet sets, swing-ball and kites for some outdoor family fun. The indoor playroom has something for all ages from table tennis to tots toys, a dolls house to DVDs - a great escape on rainy days.

Alternatively roam the woodlands and spot rare wildlife in their native habitat. Roe deer can often be seen in the morning and early evening grazing in the fields on the edge of the woodlands - watching them quietly graze is wonderful antidote to a busy life.

Smallicombe Farm benefits from a very quiet and peaceful location, but it is also not too far from the coast and some excellent days out. Honiton and the Jurassic coast are close by and you’ll have the chance to explore the regency town of Sidmouth and enjoy Lyme Regis famous for the French Lieutenant’s Woman film.

Accessibility

The Granary is a wheelchair accessible cottage complete with a ramp leading out onto a large lawn area. The ground floor Garden suite B&B room is easily accessible and has a roll-in shower.

It was over thirty five years ago that Ian and Maggie moved to Smallicombe Farm, and now we - the next generation - have moved back home with our children to help manage Smallicombe and its thriving diversified farm activities. The outside space is super child friendly, and has been thoroughly tested by our daughters Megan and Hattie and their friends.
