Stanwell House is a beautiful Georgian getaway with communal spaces comprising cosy corners where you and the kids can curl up to read your favourite books, sip on tea and chatter away; through to bright and airy dining spaces with food to suit every appetite. There are 27 luxuriously appointed bedrooms, filled with personality, luxury soft furnishings, carefully considered features and modern amenities. As well as free WiFi throughout the hotel (terrace and garden included) you’ll find a Roberts radio, complimentary bottled water and tea and coffee-making facilities, with fresh milk delivered in the morning, and whenever you need it during the day, in every room. Sumptuous Land and Water bath products are provided; for fun bath times for serene soaks once the kids are in bed! There’s also TVs with chromecast so you can snuggle up in bed for family film nights. It’s the ultimate home-from-home environment.

Nestled within the original Georgian building, the lovely Family Suite offers a spacious retreat for two adults and two children. The large master bedroom provides a calm escape, while the separate children’s room, featuring bunk beds and a cosy den, is a fun and inviting space for little ones. A shared family bathroom seamlessly links the two rooms, ensuring convenience for all. Overlooking the bustling high street, this charming suite blends timeless character with modern comforts. The Terrace and Garden Rooms are located away from the hustle and bustle of the High Street, at the rear of the hotel. There are several sets of interconnecting rooms ideally suited to families with older children, or those travelling with extended groups of families and friends. Some feature baths, whilst many have walk-in showers (and are located on the ground floor!) making them suitable for guests with limited mobility. For added flexibility, some rooms include extremely comfortable sofa beds, or extra beds can be added to ensure every family’s needs are met. A selection of the gorgeous bedrooms can accommodate a travel cot for infants too – all ages are welcome.

Dogs are welcome in Terrace Rooms for £25 a night – baskets, a towel and a Sir Woofchester’s treat pot will be provided.

Whether you’re looking to recharge after an active day exploring the forest or trying to find the best restaurant in Lymington to celebrate a special occasion, there’s dining options to suit your fancy, all served with the same excellent quality of service. For laid-back but luxurious dining, check out the stylish bistro restaurant, Samphire. The bright and airy Orangery is the perfect place to indulge in afternoon tea, a late lunch or a delectable hot chocolate. For parents, the Salt Bar is the locals go-to watering hole where you can enjoy a fabulous cocktail, a refreshing pint and check out the enviable wine list. Children are welcome in the bar until 9pm. The varied menus, offering the very best from the land and sea, are available throughout the hotel so you can relax and dine wherever suits you and the kids.

Breakfast is served from 7:30am to 10am, so you can fill your boots before heading out for an adventure. The day time menu is served between midday to 6pm, before the evening menu offering from 6pm to 9pm everyday. The Sunday roast is certainly worth experiencing, as is the delightful afternoon tea – a great treat for all ages. As well as being packed with seasonal specialities, the menu has a fantastic array of family favourites. If you can manage to tear yourself away from the hotel, and all its delicious offerings, there are plenty of family-friendly places to eat in Lymington. Many within walking distance, and many offering locally grown and sourced produce and dishes. No trip to the coast is complete with fish and chips, tucked into whilst you lounge on the quayside, catching crabs and the afternoon sun. Of equal importance is a seaside dessert – check out Humbug for tasty homemade ice creams. A necessary treat after days full of walking, cycling, swimming or fishing.

They’re about shared experiences, lots of fun and a dose of relaxation – and there’s plenty of all of that at Stanwell House. Spend your days ambling down the picturesque cobbled streets of Lymington, popping into the numerous independent shops, boat watching at the harbour and crabbing on the quay (located across the road from the hotel). Curated guides and a specially-designed family treasure hunt can help lead the way to the local’s favourite spots and sites of culture and historical significance. Following the quay to the connection seawall, you’ll find Keyhaven Nature, home to a whole host of flora, fauna and seabirds. Little nature lovers will be in their element; don’t forget the binoculars!

Alternatively, head further afield and experience the breathtaking New Forest and stunning surrounding countryside. With miles of walking routes and cycle tracks, designed to offer all ages and abilities the chance to explore safely, there's plenty to keep you busy. For those seeking an adventure, the forest is also home to family-friendly activities; everything from kayaking through to archery. Back in Lymington itself, you can try your hand at sailing, with three yachting marinas in town, and plenty of places offering lessons for first-timers through to the experienced. If you want to swim rather than sail, there are several scenic beaches within driving distance of the hotel. For sand castle building, check out Lepe, Highcliffe or Steamer Point beaches. If you don’t mind shingles, Milford-on-Sea and Barton-on-Sea are lovely spots for a swim, stone skimming or long leisurely walks. Due to the age of the property, Stanwell House does not have a lift. However, there are several several ground floor bedrooms, each equipped with either a walk-in shower or bath.

Where is it and how do you get there?

By Road

Located just south of the A34, Lymington is around two hours from Bath, two and a half hours from London or three hours from Birmingham.

There is limited parking available working on a first-come, first-served basis. However, additional parking can be found around town.

By Air

The local airports are Southampton and Bournemouth; a half an hour or 40-minute drive respectively. Alternatively, you can catch regular trains from Lymington to Brockenhurst, then directly on to Southampton Airport. If you’re landing in London, the drive from Heathrow is under two hours, whilst from Gatwick it’s around two hours and a quarter. Taxis can be arranged through the hotel.

By Rail

Stanwell House is just a 5-minute walk to the Lymington Town Station, where trains run every 30 minutes to Brockenhurst. From there you’ll find direct trains to a selection of larger towns and cities including London, Southampton and Winchester.

By Sea

Stanwell House to Wightlink ferry terminal is less than 10-minutes by car or train. There are ferries across the Solent to and from the Isle of Wight.

Owner recommendations

If you’re visiting over the weekend, take a nosy at the bustling weekly market. Every Saturday the long high street is full of brilliant stalls selling local produce, gifts, clothing and more.
Don’t forget your walking boots. By far the best attraction in Lymington is the gorgeous New Forest. All the staff have a favourite walk that they’re happy to share with you.
For little science buffs and culture vultures, the Beaulieu Motor Museum is a great rainy-day activity.
Highcliffe castle and beach are definitely worth a visit. Beautiful sandy coast to walk along, and a majestic castle to explore.
Be sure to check out Exbury Gardens; a 200-acre woodland garden complete with steam railway.
