For award-winning family-friendly accommodation in Somerset, look no further than Upper Vobster. The working farm boasts six stunning cottages and apartments, set on a peaceful, landscaped estate, with paddocks and fields beyond. With room for up to 22 guests across the whole site, it’s as good for big family getaways, as it is for quiet weekends with close family. Embrace the simple life with activities from egg collecting to goat walking, country walks and lots of rest and rejuvenation.

About this place

Best bits

  • Kids will love getting stuck in with farm activities, from egg collecting to animal feeding every morning. If you visit in the spring, schedule in some cuddle time with the lambs.
  • Magical evenings spent by the river, warming up around the fire pit, cooking your dinner al fresco or toasting marshmallows for a sweet treat.
  • Nothing beats taking your daily constitutional around the farm’s 55 acres of wildflower meadows, ancient woodlands and peaceful footpaths.

Top tips

  • Expect a warm welcome from resident farm dog Toby. And if you’d like your pooch to join in the Somerset fun, book the pet-friendly Lavender Cottage or Valley View with a small additional cleaning fee.
  • Be sure to pack your waterproofs and wellies during the colder and wetter months. But don’t worry if you forget your boots, the farm has lots of spare pairs available to borrow.
  • Due to the rural location of the self-catering cottages, bringing supplies with you is recommended. Or get your food shop delivered straight to your cottage.

About the owners

Michael & Tricia

Listed since January 2024

When we moved to Upper Vobster Farm, the buildings and grounds were derelict and dilapidated. From an early age, Tricia h as  had a love o f creating warm spaces, doing up rooms and places, so taking on the whole project was an exciting prospect! Together we've always enjoyed sharing with others and connecting with people and we realised the importance of this opportunity. We've now built a foundation that provides the farm with its deeply tangible and harmonious quality, a quality available for everyone to enjoy. The result is pristineness, simplicity and clarity. We look forward to welcoming you to experience the warmth and support of our special accommodation.

Owner recommendations

  • Keep your eyes peeled for owls, red kites, kingfishers, woodpeckers, buzzards, plentiful deer, herons, and a pair of otters who visit from time to time.

  • On the edge of the Longleat Estate and owned by the National Trust is Cley Hill, a distinctive landmark, rich in wildlife and archaeology with a tremendous panorama. The Cley Hill Trail is a beautiful walk with fabulous views, wildlife and history.

  • It’s worth making the one-hour drive to Brean Beach. The seven-mile stretch of beautiful sandy beach is one of the longest stretches of sand in Europe!

  • For a subterranean adventure, check out Cheddar Gorge. One of Britain’s most spectacular natural landmarks. From awe-inspiring cliffs to extraordinary stalactite packed caves, it’s a fun and educational day trip.
