Most parents will welcome the end of the summer holidays at first, because after all, your kids are back at school and a little peace and quiet is not going to hurt any of us! But once they are settled back into their educational journey, it is quite normal to start missing our little monsters as we reminisce about those fantastic times we’ve shared with them during the summertime. But all is not lost!

Thanks to the October half term that is just on the horizon, we can grab this opportunity with both hands and start planning yet another excellent family holiday break with them once more. So let’s take a peek at a few suggestions that will ensure they have just as much fun as possible!

Pre-Schoolers

Of course for those of you fortunate to not be bound by school and regulations there are some real out of season bargains to be had on a UK family holiday including fabulous farm stays where the kids get to meet and feed the animals and be little farmers for a while; child-friendly cottages with facilities aplenty, including pools, indoor play areas and games room if the weather turns chilly and of course fabulous hotels where nothing is too much trouble and kids clubs, cookery courses and outdoor pursuits give you the chance to enjoy a couple of hours R & R or a spa treatment.

Autumn Sun?

Okay, we may be experiencing some chilly times right now, but that doesn’t mean that the rest of the world isn’t nice and warm. So why not head off to Southern or Eastern Europe for a family break abroad. Turkey and Egypt are still lovely and warm and if you choose a location that includes a nice selection of kids clubs, you will not go far wrong. Most of these countries are only 3 or 4 hours away and if you leave in the morning, you can be on the beach for some late afternoon sun and ice cream treats!

Staying Local

Perhaps your budget is a little fragile after your summer holidays, but that doesn’t mean that you have to waste the whole fortnight watching daytime TV with your kids. There are plenty of interesting places to see during the October half-term break and sometimes you can have just as much fun as you would overseas. Obviously Halloween is a great festival and why not combine this with a barbeque for all of your kids’ friends to enjoy? Fun day trips with the kids to places such as London are always a great treat and you can easily spend two or three days exploring the coastline with your little treasures. Buy them a few metal detectors and see if you can find the real thing on the myriad of beaches we are blessed with in the UK. Or how about some mackerel fishing and a little crabbing in those shallow pools?

Tips for half-term treats!

To ensure that your kids have the best time possible during the October half-term break, here are some top tips:

· Always bring plenty of sun protection products if you are going abroad.

· Plan your journeys in advance and pack lots of in-car entertainment for those long drives.

· Ask your kids about what they want to do, because this is key for having the most enjoyable time during your October half-term break!
