My other half (aged 37) and our little one (aged almost 1) were very excited to begin our weekend away at Tregongeeves Farm Cottages in Cornwall, and as soon as we arrived it didn’t disappoint!

From the offset Judith (one of the lovely owners) told us to ‘just bring your wellies and swimming costumes’ and honestly if that is all we had packed then it wouldn’t have mattered (in reality of course it felt like we had packed the car with enough stuff for a family of five to survive a two-week vacation through all seasons…).

From toys to cots, beach kits to high chairs - and an extensive baby and child list for pre-ordering anything ahead of your stay - they really have thought of everything. Baby Ruby is on the move so we really appreciated the fitted stairgates, and she very much appreciated the big toy box!

Set on a beautiful farm with gorgeous views over the countryside our luxury cottage for the weekend ‘Loveday’ was wonderful – with an open plan living area and modern kitchen, and two bedrooms downstairs – one for Ruby with space for her cot and one with a very comfy king size bed for us. We were greeted with a local butcher’s pack for our morning brekkie with eggs from the resident chickens, and a cream tea to tuck into (no trip to Cornwall should be without this treat!)

Our first day was a bit grey and drizzly but it was a great excuse to hang out in the huge playbarn… the upstairs has a games room for grown-ups and bigger kids (again fitted with stairgates – perfect for us to enjoy a game of table tennis whilst Rubes explored!) and the downstairs is mini kid heaven full of soft play, fancy dress, toys and train tracks.

My favourite part of the playbarn was next door… a large heated pool complete with jacuzzi! The pool has a playpen on the side with toys, and also kids armbands and floats… Rubes was in her element (as was I relaxing in the jacuzzi!)

The farm has lots of friendly animals you can visit, Ruby loved stroking the donkeys, pigs and meeting the chickens and the newly-hatched chicks! There’s also an outdoor play area and a tennis court. Everything is in close proximity and makes Tregongeeves such an easy relaxed fun place to spend the weekend.

The next day we woke to sunshine (hurray!) so made the most of exploring the local area. There are some beautiful beaches nearby; we visited Porthpean Beach which was great for rock pooling.

Down the road is the picturesque village of Charlestown (Poldark is filmed here – unfortunately, we didn’t run into Ross…) where we enjoyed a delicious feast at the family friendly ‘Boathouse’ (with some of the best cocktails I’ve had in ages!). There’s also the Eden Project, Lost Gardens of Heligan and many more places to explore - all detailed in the big info pack they provide in the cottages.

We’ve already been chatting about our next holiday here – maybe hiring the other cottages too with a big group of friends! It’s such a wonderful place for grown-ups and children of all ages, a real ‘home away from home’ with loads to do rain or shine, thank you Tregongeeves for such a fab relaxed stay!
