Kendal Calling Festival
Kendal Calling is an award-winning, innovative, independent festival based in the Lake District - and we go because it's small enough to feel intimate and special and the kids feel secure. You'll find pioneering contemporary music and art alongside traditional rural entertainment. Kendal Calling aims to offer the most fun you can have in the countryside with fields full of activities and attractions for everyone, including us families.
Kendal Calling returns to Lowther Deer Park on the 27th - 30th July, 2017.
Kendal Calling was born from a group of music lovers who felt the fields of Cumbria could be put to better use during the summer months - in the name of music, fun and frolics.
You'll find woodland stages, hammocks to crash in, DJ tents, folksie tents, big name stages - the Sunday line up of Jonny Marr, The Charltans and Primal Scream was quite simply a joy! Girls collected plastic glasses and beer bottles and cans for the recycling tent and made a small fortune whilst keeping the field clear (genius idea) - food varied and delicious - beer quite expensive but good - loads to do to keep the kids occupied - a joy!
Chai Wallahs popped it's Kendal Calling cherry and became the hub of the Kaylied, we branched out into the Woodlands, The Deer Lodge provided affordable luxury camping and the fields were awash with Fairytale and Comic book characters - in fact they got the Guiness Book of Records for thw most Superman heroes - a sight to behold... there was even a Gingerbread house that Aggie wanted to replicate at home.
LadyBird Childrens Area
We are hollering from the hilltops for our young festival revelers this year, and boy, what a plethora of unique fun we have planned for you this year. This year kid’s activities span the whole site, with a Kids Breakfast Club in the Emperor's Fields camping area and the Family Camping area, bigger and better Ladybird Kids area, improved family friendly facilities plus activities for all the family in Tim Peaks Diner to boot! Sitting in the sunshine with a beer whilst the girls got their faces painted, went on the big wheel and mosied around was a real treat - seeing Tim casually walk across the field was a little surreal!
The Ladybird area returns with a brand new array of great activities and fresh new family focused evening entertainment, including the Ladybird's fantastic family friendly cabaret and the super cheesy Glow Glow Space Disco! There’s the Ladybird Grand Carnival, Giant Games, Sports Day, Tug-o-war and madcap challenges, new adventure playground and much more! Little ones can join in the fun in the workshop tent where young Kendal Callers can get busy on cool workshops including beatboxing, puppetry, Junk Percussion, Mad Science Experiments, and a whole host of fun creations to make and parade around at the Sunday Carnival!
