Standon Calling Festival
True to form, STANDON CALLING will be jumbling up a completely unique collection of acts, to offer as diverse a musical bill as is possible in one weekend. Situated just 40 minutes away from London, 2018 promises to be our best and most innovative party yet. We’d love it if you can join us. The only UK festival to feature a swimming pool..
The independent music festival and themed summer party, Standon Calling, returns to the grounds of a 16th Century Hertfordshire manor house and promises a unique chance to see some hotly tipped acts, in an intimate festival setting. The festival promises a new format for the weekend of Thursday 26th July to Sunday 29th July 2018.
Standon Calling has evolved from a party into a festival over the years. In doing so has retained its intimacy and house party feel where kids can run about in a safe environment on the lawn taking a dip in the pool.
Having grown by word-of-mouth, we've got a bit bigger since those early days, but retained our home-grown ethos and commitment to championing new artists. Every year plenty of Mercury Awards nominees have previously played Standon Calling. You're pretty much guaranteed to discover bands before most people have heard of them. Florence and the Machine, Friendly Fires, Mumford and Sons, Bastille, Metronomy, Anna Calvi and The Noisettes all played Standon before enjoying the profiles they do today.
Child Friendly Festival
As with previous years all under-13s get into Standon Calling absolutely free, as long as they attend with a ticket-holding adult. New this year entertainment-wise is a ‘You and Me' Kids' Photo-Booth complete with props to pose. And for the first time we'll also be having a children's category in the annual themed fancy dress competition.
The kid's area is set in a quiet corner of the manor house, close to the swimming pool, which always proves popular with our younger festival-goers. Regular returning actvities in this area include face painting, our legendary craft area (replete with badge making), storytelling, yoga classes, drama workshops, interactive theatre, Maurice's reggae nursery rhymes and the ever-popular Punch and Judy show. For the really young ones there's a 'sense' play area and baby massage lessons.
Set behind a white picket fence in a more tranquil part of the festival, our kid's area is designed to provide children's entertainment and give parents a chance to relax. Please do bear in mind though it's not a creche and children must be accompanied by adults.
