Boussagou

Child friendly cottage, Midi-Pyrenees

About Boussagou

Boussagou Gites: family-focussed, beautifully appointed farmhouse cottages in South West France with a shared pool, nestled in 20 acres of fields and woodland between the Lot and Dordogne rivers.

Staying in one of the 3 beautifully converted farmhouses will be a real treat for all of your family. As well as having amazing facilities on-site, the stunning Dordogne and Lot regions of France are just on your doorstep.  Whether you’re looking to soak up the sun while the kids play in the heated pool, or some of the local wine and culture you couldn’t pick a better spot.

The farmhouses are all situated within a traditional French hamlet that owners Ken and Bernadette fell in love with. Peace, tranquility and truly family-friendly facilities and services make Boussagou perfect for a relaxing holiday. There’s space for adventure and play in a safe and secure atmosphere, plus treats such as babysitting and on-site massages to help you really unwind.

The Gites

The 3 individual farmhouses have been refurbished to provide modern comforts whilst retaining their original character. With fitted kitchens and microwaves, washing machines and dishwashers (N.B. currently Pichoutou does not have a dishwasher) managing the family is as easy as being at home(!), as well as facilities for al-fresco dining, a BBQ and sun umbrella to enjoy the non-british weather. Bed linen, towels, hairdryers and basics such as cleaning essentials are included.

Le Pigeonnier is the largest gite, sleeping up to 8. It has a huge inglenook fireplace in the beamed farmhouse kitchen and a beautiful private garden.

La Longere sleeps 7 and has its own garden where you’ll find a private pool and decked area, shaded by peach and walnut trees.Guests are also welcome to use the large shared pool.

Pichoutou (sleeps 4) is the oldest of the properties and has loads of original features such as a beamed fireplace and French stone sink. Stone walls and wonderful views from the terrace make this little cottage very special.

Activities

The large 12 x 5 metre heated swimming pool is available to all guests and has space around for sunbathing.  If you can drag the kids away there are loads of activities to while away a day at Boussagou. Why not engage in some healthy family competition with a game of badminton, swing ball or petanque? Kids of all ages will have fun in the games barn playing with table tennis, table football, toys, books, board games and dressing-up clothes.

Outside you’ll find a climbing frame with swings, slide and an in-ground trampoline, plus a Tiny Tots area for your little ones. They can also visit and feed the Boussagou pets, and perhaps collect a few eggs. For the more active family members there are walking and jogging trails straight from your front door, and bikes for all ages available free of charge.

Food & Drink

All guests are made to feel at home right away with a welcome basket of provisions to keep you going until you can get to a shop or market. You’ll find tea, coffee, milk bread, butter, snacks and wine all waiting for you on arrival.

For those arriving after a long journey, or in the evening you can pre-order a home cooked 4-course meal made with local and home produced ingredients wherever possible. There’s also an on-site honesty bar stocked with drinks and ice-creams.

The nearest village is Cazals (5 mins) with shops, restaurants, and a superb weekly Sunday Market. Supermarkets can be found 20 minutes away in Gourdon, a stunning hilltop town. You’ll also find a wide choice of local restaurants, including Le Gindreau with a Michelin Star.

Kids and Parents

Aside from the array of on-site activities, games and play areas you’ll find everything you need to make your stay complete and trouble free. There is free wifi across the site, and a laptop is available on request should you need it.

Baby/toddler equipment including cot bed, highchair, stair gates, and toys can all be provided on request. There is also a bookable babysitting service and massage treatments are available on-site.

Further afield you’ll be spoilt for choice for days out with tree-climbing adventure parks, water parks, horse riding, golf, fishing, and hot air balloon trips all within easy reach.

Explore the rivers and hire canoes for a family day to remember, or step back in time with a visit to Castlenaud’s magnificent castle - complete with working trebuchets and catapults!

Well worth a visit are the caves at Les Eyzies - only half an hour from Boussagou and filled with wall paintings and interesting historical objects.

Visit Cahors or Sarlat on a Saturday to try out some local delicacies such as goats cheese, truffles and wine at the famous markets, or ask the owners for tips on local vineyards and villages.

The Owners: Ken & Bernadette

“Having spent most of our lives working in London, we decided on a complete change of lifestyle. We adore this part of France and fell in love with Boussagou the moment we saw it and we're sure you will too. Each farmhouse on Boussagou has been lovingly renovated and it is a safe and tranquil haven for family or group holidays.”

Fortunately for their guests, they live on-site in Le Muguet, a 4th cottage set slightly away from the other three and are readily on hand to offer any help, as well as share their abundance of knowledge on places to visit and things to do.

Gorgeous farmhouses with oodles of charm, coupled with a fantastic array of facilities, all set in a beautiful location.
