About Catgill Campsite
Catgill Campsite has lots of open space for kids to play safely including a shallow stream that they spend all day playing in whilst making friends. This family friendly campsite is perfectly located for many other child orientated businesses such as Hesketh Farm Park and Billy Bobs diner which are literally a stones throw away. Botlon Abbey steam railway is within walking distance and Bolton Abbey itself is only 10 minutes away with the famous stepping stones over the river and the recently introduced welly walk which is free outdoor activities within the woodland specifically aimed at children. Catgill Campsite has lots of things to keep kids occupied and parents can relax and enjoy the beautiful countryside knowing their children are having fun in a safe environment.
This family run campsite in Yorkshire was, until recently, a working farm. It occupies a unique position on the Chatsworth Estate, with spectacular views across the Wharfe valley and within a mile of Bolton Abbey. Plans are afoot for a small playground but most kids that visit seem to be quite happy pulling on their wellies, grabbing a fishing net and building dams, in the small stream that trickles through the field to the River Wharfe. Catgill is a beautiful and peaceful setting in which to relax, the perfect place for a memorable stay in the Yorkshire Dales.
Tent only pitches
There is a large field in which to pitch your tent. Pitches are not marked out so you just bowl up and choose from the spaces left where you wish camp. The field is fairly level and can easily accommodate around 30 tents. At peak periods there is also an additional field which can be opened up to accommodate busy periods. If you chose a pitch at the lower end of the field by the stream it is very picturesque but also the furthest away from the toilet block.
Catgill boasts a fabulous brand new shower block with free hot showers, washbasins and toilets including a dedicated disabled/family room in both male and female washrooms. A separate facility provides six sinks for pot washing and two large communal fridge freezers. There is also a small shop on site selling basic essentials, and fire pits are available to hire on request.
Location and things to do
Set in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales and close to the Dalesway footpath this really is a walker's paradise with much to explore and lots to do for families including Hesketh Farm Park and the Yorkshire Dales Ice Cream Factory both of which are just a stone’s throw away. There are a number of picturesque towns and villages within easy reach, such as Skipton, Ilkley and Grassington. For steam enthusiasts Bolton Railway Station is a must visit. This preserved, volunteer-run line plays host to some magnificent steam trains, including everyone's favourite, Thomas the Tank Engine. Catgill is a perfect campsite for either an action-packed family holiday or a tranquil relaxing break.
