About Derwent House
Derwent House is a characterful property that oozes charm and luxury and ideal for large families or friends wanting to take a holiday together with its 6 bedrooms and 5 bedrooms. Set in the picturesque town of Matlock in Derbyshire, on the edge of the Peak District, it is the ideal base to visit the beautiful surrounding countryside or one of the many family attractions in the nearby area.
Built in 1753, Derwent House is a comfortable and superb Georgian house for up to 12 guests set over three floors. Located in a conservation area and just a short walk from local pubs, restaurants and independant shops, it is the ideal base for exploring Derbyshire and the Peak District.
There is a large sitting room with a log burner for cosy evenings in with two large sofas, a TV and DVD player, books and games, which overlooks the front garden and Knowleston gardens beyond. Opposite the lounge is the dining room, which seats up to 12 people around the large dining table for sociable dinners.
There is a snug towards the back of the house, which was once the old kitchen, where you can hide away to read a book or use it as the childrens room with double doors leading into the kitchen. With its old quarry tile floor and large double range cooker, larder fridge, microwave and dishwasher, the kitchen is the hub of the house - big enough for everyone to gather with its table and benches for cooking and informal eating. In the utility room is the washing machine, tumble dryer, freezer and recycling facilities.
There is an enclosed courtyard area outside the kitchen with a table and chairs - ideal for relaxing with an early evening drink.
On the first floor are four bedrooms and the main family bathroom. The master bedroom has an original Georgian fireplace, oak wardrobe, chest of drawers and bedside cabinets. This room can also accommodate a day bed or cot. Opposite the master is a twin bedroom with its own en-suite shower room and toilet. There are stairgates on the top and bottom of the main staircase.
Towards the back of the house are two further double bedrooms with en-suite showers and toilets.
Up on the third floor are two further bedrooms; one with a kingsize bed and an en-suite shower room and toilet; the other with twin beds and can also accomodate a day bed or cot.
All in all it is magnificent accomodation for a large family or families wishing to holiday together.
A nice little touch from the owners on arrival is the provision of milk, teas, fruit teas and garden herbs, along with essentials such as cling film, kitchen roll, dishwasher tablets and washing-up liquid. T-towels, dishclothes and cleaning products are all provided along with tea lights in the reception rooms, meaning you dont have to bring everything with you.
