Graig Wen

Child friendly glamping, Gwynedd – Family Yurts and Bell Tents, Gwynedd, Wales

About Graig Wen

Stunning Snowdonia and the beautiful Mawddach Estuary provide the backdrop for this award winning site in North Wales. Owners Sarah and John have thought of everything to make your stay easy - so that you can relax after a 5 hour mountain ascent or even just a stroll on the beach.

The Away with the Kids review

Mountains and estuaries are always a fantastic combination - in this case the Mawddach Estuary and Snowdonia.  Sarah has made the most of said views and suppplied some fantastically equipped and comfortable family glamping options from which to enjoy both. Posh camping options are listed below and include yurts, a Welsh caban in a glade, Pop-Up Yurts during the summer months and a Bell Tent all scattered throughout this fab site - chosen depending on how off-grid and back to nature you would like to be. Note - there is no compromise on comfort here!

Glamping

Woodburning stoves, simple lighting, cooking equipment and cosy rugs and blankets are provided in all of the glamping accommodation.

Large Yurt: sleeps 5 in 1 king bed and 2 single futons

Small Yurt: sleeps 2 in 1 double futon bed

2 x Pop-Up Yurts: both sleep 4 in a double bed and 2 single sofa beds. Available in Winter too.

Bell Tent: sleeps 4 on 2 camp beds and a double inflatable mattress. Available July & August only.

Welsh Caban: sleeps 2 (plus toddler) on a double futon. Enjoy 360° views of Snowdonia in this romantic eco-hideaway.

Touring Pitches

Choose between the lower camping fields for a real back to nature experience amongst meadows, streams and wild woods, or stay closer to the facilities in the upper site. With lots of tent pitches (no electricity) the Lower Fields are a great for families with older children. Wash facilities are a few minutes walk uphill, but there is an eco loo and compost toilet. There are 3 pitches with adjacent parking. Most pitches are car free but you can arrange for a lift in at check-in/out.

The upper site has 8 hard-standing pitches with electric hook-ups for smaller tents, motorhomes and caravans, plus a few grass pitches with electric hook-ups for tents.

The Site

The on-site camp shop stocks camping basics (beans, marshmallows, logs and kindling) as well as local eggs, bacon, sausages, juice, craft ales, cider and wine. Pre-order fresh croissants for breakfast, or a more substantial hamper. Home cooked frozen meals are also available, or take a short drive, cycle or stroll to one of a number of pubs and cafes if you want to eat out.

The upper camp facilities include toilets and modern showers. Down in the glade there’s an eco toilet a 1 minute walk away.

Places to visit

Wonderful walks and cycle routes right from the campsite along the estuary.

Explore Arthog Falls and climb Cadair Idris - easier than Snowdon and great with the kids.

Zip World and Bounce Below.

Beaches, crabbing and fish and chips at Barmouth.
