Time spent together as a family is very precious. And we know how important it is for everyone to be happy. The Hilton London Metropole Hotel has taken care of the little things which make all the difference, so everyone has an enjoyable, relaxing stay in the capital. This child friendly hotel offers a whole host of benefits for families. Rooms are available that sleep two adults and at least one child. Interconnecting rooms are also available, and the newly refurbished Family Superior rooms offer extra space and can sleep a family of 5 in comfort.
The Away with the Kids review
The Hilton Metropole Hotel is located on Edgware Road opposite a late opening Marks & Spencer's and has not one but two tube stops of the same name. The hotel is located just outside the London congestion charge zone so if you need to travel by car all you need to pay is the parking fee. Just a short 15 minute walk through an area called "Little Lebanon" will take you to the Marble Arch end of Oxford Street, so getting to all the tourist attractions is easy with handy tube stations and bus stops directly outside the hotel.
We arrived when the lobby was bustling with families and tourists trying to check in. The hotel was also hosting a number of functions that night so was obviously very busy. However the efficient check in staff soon whittled down the queue and while I sorted out the necessities the kids and hubby were happily occupied drooling over the F1 racing car which took pride of place in the lobby bar.
Family Superior Room
We were allocated a family superior room on the West Wing and once we discovered the correct lift to use we were soon ensconced up to the eleventh floor. We were all very happy with our room as it was very spacious for London standards and included two queen sized beds with a chill out area which took full advantage of the floor to ceiling windows and the amazing view - watching the rush hour traffic in the dusk was quite magical over the striking London skyline. The settee converted into a further double bed so for a family of 5 we were very comfortable. Recently refurbished the décor was also very pleasing to the eye especially in my favourite hues - aubergine and olive green creating a modern and relaxing environment. You also had not one but two large flat screen tvs with satellite channels. Hannah (age 7) was the first to strip off and try out the bathroom. "Just having a freshen up mum before we go out" as she ponders over the many Crabtree and Evelyn lotions and potions and has a quick dip in the bath. Again immaculately clean, beautifully decorated, double sinks, power shower and bags of space, gave us a luxurious feeling of not being in each other's pockets.
Family Friendly Restaurant
From 5.00-6.00 pm the kids could try their hand at helping the chefs out to make and prepare pizzas. Our kids would have begged us to let them join in had I told them but I had planned a quick venture out to Westminster Cathedral and the Evensong service at 5 pm. We managed to get back to the hotel in time to our 6.30 pm reserved table in the Fiamma Restaurant. The kid's portions were huge and children up to the age of 10 can eat and drink for free from the children's menu, which features a range of freshly prepared treats for little ones. My dinner was exquisite and clean plates all round meant no room for desserts unfortunately. Emily (aged 10) raved on about how delicious her "Donald Duck Shake" was all through her meal and insisted we all try a bit - it was good! The kids finished their meal with a trip to the chocolate fountain and candy store. I don't know how they managed to find room... but they did.
Our room was remarkably quiet and well sound proofed as we couldn't hear any other guests. I think this, plus the fact that the beds were so comfortable and the room had blackout curtains, meant we all managed to have a good night sleep - which is no mean feat when 5 share a room together.
In the morning the breakfast was buffet style with lots of tempting options to suit a variety of tastes. There was a great variety of continental and English breakfast and some amazing pastries and variety of breads. You basically eat as much as you want until you are full. So after a full cooked English breakfast we were ready to face another day touring London.
London Hotel with Swimming Pool & Lessons for Children
If you are stopping at the Hilton Metropole for a few days it might be worth throwing in your cossie with your packing as the swimming pool on the second floor did look rather tempting. Children's swimming lessons together with age appropriate swimming equipment are available. There was also an adult gym adjacent to it. Alfie (age 3) loved riding up in the glass elevator or "rocket lift" as he called it from the lobby where you can see hotel guests bobbing about in the pool.
Family friendly, this hotel offers children under the age of 18 a stay for free when sharing their parent's room. The Hilton Metropole has increased the number of interconnecting rooms for your family's comfort and security. If you prefer a separate room for your children, they offer a second room at half-price.
