The Away with the Kids review

The Cottage

Meadowview Cottage sits adjacent to verdant green meadows where you can watch sheep graze and lambs frolic in the Spring, all from the comfort of your dining room.  Just a few minutes from the coast at Crackington Haven, Boscastle and Bude, this former milking parlour has been remarkably transformed into one of Cornwall’s finest 5 Star Gold awarded holiday cottages, where one or two small dogs are also welcome.   Escape to this country chic cottage to fulfil your dream cottage holiday.

Together, with a private-use sauna and covered, heated decking area for Mum and Dad’s rest and relaxation, there is something for everyone at the cottage.  An abundance of toys for inside and outside the cottage, plus 30 acres of meadows to explore, means there should be no shortage of family fun and entertainment, whatever the weather.

Living Area

Enjoy wholesome family meals and morning breakfasts in the ‘room with a view’. The dining room, with its fabulous picture window brings the countryside and cottage garden seamlessly into your dining area.  Home cooked delights can be prepared overlooking the same view and out towards the tropical-style garden. Within the high quality kitchen find everything from veggie peeler to fridge/freezer. Best of all, the open-plan kitchen and sitting room means you can still join in family fun whilst preparing tasty snacks. Forget heavy, clothes laden suitcases as the provision of a washing machine, tumble dryer and garden clothes dryer will make light work of a quick clothes refresh.  With totally free unlimited Wi-Fi throughout the cottage there is no risk of missing anything on TV or even work!  The sitting room provides a truly comfortable end to the day where time can be enjoyed together in-front of the stove whilst playing games or watching TV.  Unique and bespoke lighting fixtures feature in the living room. These have been created by The Bolts, using farming antiquities and relics, that were once an important part of the working farm.  Their aim - make your stay a truly home-from-home experience and with a few luxuries thrown in for good measure, we believe they have accomplished their goal – why not stay and find out?

Bedrooms and Bathrooms (for 6, plus one infant)

Wake in the morning to a view of the tropical-style garden after a night’s relaxation in a romantic, vintage-French-style master bedroom with an artisan up-cycled bed canopy, designer lighting, hand painted shutters, bespoke wooden TV wall panelling, vanity unit and a sumptuous, super-king bed.  The cyan tinged, vintage-themed guest bedroom features a double bed with luxurious French linen and a generous ensuite shower room featuring bespoke photo-art.  The third bedroom is also beautifully decorated and features two full size 3ft twin beds. There is a family bathroom with WC, basin and power-shower.  A cot is provided for an infant.

Being detached, every room at Meadowview Cottage benefits from the sun’s rays at some point during the day, brightening rooms and lifting spirits as only sunshine can do.  Situated at the end of a short, private lane within the quintessential Cornish hamlet of Trelash, Meadowview Cottage benefits from private off road parking for up to 3 vehicles and gardens on two sides. With two enclosed gardens to choose from, one with a dedicated BBQ area directly overlooking an adjacent meadow and one with a delightful covered and heated sitting area to make the most of warm, balmy evenings. Between the two gardens is a log cabin housing your own private-use sauna and shower facility.  Outside taps and hosepipes makes cleaning wellies (and dogs) simple.

Out and About

For families who crave the seaside and family attractions, but want to escape noisy, crowded evenings, Meadowview Cottage is ideally placed, just 6 minutes drive inland in a sleepy little Cornish hamlet, equidistant between Bude and Launceston.  Wake in the mornings to the gentle sounds of songbirds and relish the quiet country life whilst packing a picnic before heading off to enjoy a morning on the beach or exploring one of the many coastal walks.  Then head inland to one of the local market towns, or to one of the many family attractions for an afternoon of family fun and entertainment.  If outdoor activities are more your ‘thing’ have a go at surfing, cycling, pony trekking or head inland to the moors for dramatic scenery and long, lazy walks. The flat landscape of the Multi-Use Camel Trail leading from Wadebridge to Padstow is a great favourite with families of all ages who stay at Meadowview Cottage.  Trelash is also on the North Cornwall Cycle Trail.

A little closer to home are many other family attractions including The Tamar Otter Park, Trethorne Leisure Park, The Hidden Valley Discovery Park, Launceston Vintage steam railway, The Bodmin Steam railway, mystical castles at Tintagel and Launceston plus many more…..  A full list of activities, attractions and places to see are provided in a cottage housebook.

Winter Months and Out of Season Breaks

Cornwall is not just a Summer destination. A visit during the Spring, Autumn or Winter months means you can sometimes have a beach all to yourself; rock pooling, skimming stones and chasing through the surf.  Parking is a breeze and the roads are far quieter. After enjoying a bracing coastal or moorland walk, head to the welcoming warmth of a local country pub for a hearty pub lunch. End the day with a well-earned sauna, the perfect place to soothe tired limbs after long countryside stomps.  Christmas and New Year are always popular for family celebrations at Meadowview Cottage.
