Pagel

Child friendly cottage, Midi-Pyrenees – South West France

About Pagel

Pagel, in South West France, is dedicated to families with young children and everything has been thought of for them - which means you may all enjoy your family holiday and even get some grownup time to make the most of this stunning region. Like many of us Mark and Lara felt that holidays would never be the same with a toddler and a baby in tow.  So they went ahead and formed their own holiday destination to provide an alternative to the traditional package holiday.  Be assured that all you might need for your little ones is thought of - that ethos “When the children are happy we all have fun” rings true, but also there are special experiences for us parents too. So if you’re looking for somewhere that combines good taste with babies, toddlers, or older children, that is run by the kind of people who know what it takes to help you have a fun filled, hassle free holiday then take a look - Pagel is dreamy. Although they no longer live on site, you'll find a fantastic English team in Fiona, Carole, Sarah and Cathy running the show.

We love Pagel! It is a perfect place for families, where kids can explore and grown-ups can unwind. For toddlers and older siblings ‘Pagel’ has a magical quality, like an enchanted forest, the five acres of beautiful grounds hide a new adventure around every corner from a huge wooden replica pirate ship and fort, to trampolines and Little Tyke cars. For parents this means entertaining the brood is a breeze and, as a result, relaxation comes easily, the private terraces or pool-side area are perfect places to happily watch your children explore and make new friends.

The focus is on natural outdoor and imaginative play for the children, with play zones to explore, a fantastic pool on each site, and kids clubs to keep them busy. Meanwhile take off to a vineyard, indulge in some Michelin starred cuisine, or kick back with an on-site massage. Gites are homely and well equipped with private terraces and BBQ's, so you get the perfect mix of family community and the privacy of your own gite.

The Gites

Split over 2 sites, each as gorgeous as the other, you’ll be able to relax knowing the little ones have bags of space to run around in, and activities to enjoy.  The Pagel site comprises a beautiful old Quercy stone building which has seven super-comfy self catering (and childproofed!) gites sleeping 4 or 6 people in 2-3 bedrooms, including the Winegrowers house with a pigeoneer sleeping up to 6, and the ground floor apartment Wisteria, in Goldilocks Cottage.

The sister site at Mas Sarrat, just 15 minutes along the road, has Willow and Thyme, 2 beautifully converted gites, each sleeping up to 6 in 3 bedrooms.  Each gite has lovely views and many have their own private terrace for food, wine and relaxation in the evening.

Each accommodation has been well thought out where the children are concerned and provide a range of toys and books for them to enjoy as well as all of the baby/toddler equipment you may require.

All the gites have fully equipped kitchens including ovens, microwaves, fridge freezers and dishwashers. Linens, towels and pool towels are provided.

Activities

Most families find it hard to leave with so much available onsite.  However, the team at Pagel have put together a comprehensive days out guide recommending suitable places for all ages, so don't worry about having to plan every day before you leave.

At the Pagel site you’ll find 5 acres to explore, so children will be free to run, play and explore. The large heated swimming pool, with a terrace surrounded by security fencing, along with a small and heated toddler pool provides hours of fun when it's time to cool down or simply get wet. In addition to a fully managed on-site Kids’ Club three days a week, there are masses of good quality toys & “play zones” around the complex including a pirate ship, rocket, maze and a giant play barn. Add in climbing frames, sand pits, swings, slides and trampolines and all members of the family will find something to enjoy.

The Mas Sarrat site has similar facilities, albeit on a smaller scale, including a pool, play areas, toys and games, but with the added bonus of animal petting, feeding and egg collecting.

There’s a host of attractions within half an hours drive including the Animal Park at Gramat and the fabulous Castles at Castlenaud.

In a nearby village you’ll find Le Lac Vert in Catus - a beautiful lake with a man made beach with pedalos, restaurant and play equipment. More adventurous water fun can be has by hiring canoes from Le Base Nautique de Caix - experience lots of beautiful scenery, beaches and a restaurant by the riverside.

Cap Nature is a fantastic high roped climbing park next to the river in Cahors. Walk through the park at Foret de Singe near Rocamadour, and feed the monkeys popcorn by hand.

For a great inside adventure 100 metres below ground head to Gouffre de Padirac – take a lift, then a Gondola type boat along the river and into the magical caves.

Food & Drink

All accommodation is self catering with well equipped kitchens. Other food services such as a family BBQ , children's tea, and a Chef for the night service are also available.  There is a small honesty bar on site providing locally produced frozen meals, soft drinks, ice creams and beer and wine. Traditional fresh food markets are in nearby villages, as well as a supermarket in the local village just 5 minutes away.

There is also a wealth of lovely restaurants and auberge's within 20 minutes drive, including a 2 Michelin star restaurant.

Kids & Parents

Both sites provide small, friendly and safe environments for you to holiday in, dedicated to families with young children - little ones even get a welcome present on their pillow! There’s stacks of equipment and toys for the little ones so there is no need to pack up the entire house.

Take a book or two and enjoy some downtime whilst the children are in the fully managed on-site kids club, but aside from some reading material Pagel provide pretty much everything - just take your imaginations!

Book an English speaking babysitter and enjoy an evening out at one of the numerous local restaurants, or just take it easy with a massage or pedicure on-site.

Make use of the Friday adventure and craft sessions for children, followed by a light tea - perfect timing for parents to pack up for the journey home.

The Owner - Mark

“Our passion for Pagel is if anything more intense now after sixteen years. Our aim has been to create Pagel specifically, and only, for families with young babies, toddlers and children.  I cannot tell you how amazing it is to stand and watch pirates and princesses chasing butterflies in the lower meadow – simple, fun, imaginative and childhood as it should be.”
