About Rooke Cottages
Fantastic 5 star self-catering cottages; friendly, helpful owners; a rural location close to lots of superb days out - a fab getaway for families of all ages.
Rooke Cottages in North Cornwall have coined the most perfect strap-line for the seven desirable holiday cottages, "you may never want to leave" and indeed you may not! The gorgeous holiday cottages, the largest sleeping a family of 8, have been thoughtfully restored and beautifully furnished; there is no compromise here on either comfort or taste. Set on beautiful Duchy of Cornwall farmland and surrounded by serene and stunning Cornish countryside the cottages are perfectly placed for holiday hotspots Port Isaac, Tintagel Castle, Rock, Padstow and Bodmin Moor, as well as lots of lovely beaches for days spent digging sandcastles, rock pooling and surfing. Rooke Cottages are a superb holiday choice for families of all ages to enjoy and a great place to get together. Oh and they also run a nice line in pretty punk sheep … ask Gill!
The Away with the Kids review
The Holiday Cottages
Step inside and you will take in the relaxed, friendly atmosphere and flop. Rooke Cottages are a lovely home from home where you will unwind and have time to enjoy each other's company. The farm buildings have been beautifully restored to the very highest standards and feature exposed brick walls with inglenook fireplace, log burning stoves, vaulted beam ceilings complemented by quality fixtures and fittings. The very tasteful decor is modern, cosy and relaxing with luxury touches such as Egyptian cotton bed linen and a midweek maid service - a particularly thoughtful touch that you will really appreciate.
Facilities for Children
There is a children's play area set away from the cottages with wooden play equipment, sand pit, space to run and resident guinea pigs. There is also a TV channel linked to a CCTV camera at the farm focused on a barn owl roost! A fantastic idea for getting the kids interested in the wild life surrounding them. Cots and high chairs are available for the little ones and a baby-sitting service can be provided.
Gill and Rob have thoughtfully provided a Guest Service Area. This is a large wet room and drying room for cleaning surf boards, wet suits, and wet children! Plus you will find a ready stash of all the bulky items that you may need on your holiday, such as cool boxes, windbreaks, surf boards and a selection wellie boots. We think this is an excellent idea. You can even spend the last day's of your holiday on a sandy beach and come back to Rooke Cottages to use the guest service area to shower and freshen up before your journey home.
Things to do and places to visit in Cornwall
Given your lovely rural setting away from it all you will be surprised at the multitude of easily accessible days out. To start with Rooke Cottages are just a short walk from the village of Chapel Amble, a tiny village with a small shop and a traditional Pub/Restaurant, The Maltsters Arms, which incidentally is very child friendly.
Then there is lots more. The location is perfect for short trips to Port Isaac, Tintagel Castle, Rock, Padstow and Bodmin Moor.
Beach loving guests will find the sandy surfing beach of Polzeath or the family beach of Daymer Bay a short trip away. Golf can be played at the many superb golf courses in the area. Bikes can be hired for rides along the Camel trail to the pretty fishing port of Padstow 9 miles away. Moorland horse rides are available locally. Canoeing, sailing or wind surfing are easy to arrange.
Just 2½ miles from Bodmin, Lanhydrock House is superb for an historical day out that all the family will enjoy. It is a late Victorian country house, which was given to the National Trust, along with 450 acres of grounds, running down to the Fowey River. The superb gardens provide children with the perfect backdrop for games of hide and seek and there are numerous family events that are very popular throughout the year.
Cornwall's Crealy Adventure Park provides the ultimate family day out. Discover endless play in the Adventure Realm, Cornwall's Playtime Farm, Round the World Playzone, the Crealy Construction Company or Enchanted Realm which is especially for the little ones. In addition to the playzones you can test your nerves on Brave the Beast, the Thunder Falls Log Flume or the Viking Pirate Ship. The park is wide open with a large play area in the middle and an indoor play area for when the heavens open. Just a few miles from Wadebridge, Crealy is one of Cornwall's premier family attractions.
