Review of Rosemoor Cottages, Pembrokeshire by the Pritchard Family
The excitement built as we wound our way down the Welsh coast in beautiful September sunshine. Eventually the narrow country lanes of the little hamlet of Walwyn's castle led us to Rosemoor Cottages, we drove down the drive to excited shouts of "Wow that's the biggest see-saw I've EVER seen!" from our four year old. As we tumbled out of the car we were welcomed by Jacqui the proprietor who showed us to our cottage while our six and four year old sons charged around the large gardens and playing area (including the very impressive see-saw) elated with the space and freedom after four hours in the car!
We were staying in Peace cottage which is part of the traditional out-buildings that have been beautifully converted into 9 holiday units. They are set around three sides of a courtyard which gives a nice, sociable feel. Inside the cottage was immaculate, fresh, clean, comfortable and cosy. The downstairs is an open plan space complete with well kitted out kitchen, family dining table and a comfy sofa and chairs set around a cute wood burning stove and telly with French doors leading out into the back garden. Upstairs there are two bedrooms one with a very comfortable double bed and the other with two singles and a beautifully finished bathroom. The bedding was crisp white cotton with plump pillows which gave a feel of hotel luxury, this feeling was added to with the lovely complementary toiletries and brilliantly powerful shower in the bathroom.
Child Friendly Facilities
The cottage is child friendly throughout. The stair gate at the top of the stairs and the space being open plan downstairs meant that our 18 month old could roam around freely and safely upstairs and down. Jacqui and John seem to be committed to providing family friendly holidays as they offer an extensive list of child and baby gear to borrow. From the usual cots and high chairs to more unexpected but really, really useful plastic sheets, potty and nappy buckets. Jackie and John also made it clear at the beginning of our stay that we were welcome to roam around the property as long as we were careful to close gates after ourselves. Our lot certainly took them at their word! Because of the cottages being down a little drive and completely surrounded by farm land and the nature reserve it felt very safe and secure for our six and four year olds to be playing outside: in the back garden, in the chicken garden and of course the very popular play area. Our 18 month old son loved the chickens and was perfectly amused toddling around after them!
Rosemoor borders on a large tranquil nature reserve. We really enjoyed exploring the little higgledy-piggledy paths and board walks. We spotted wildlife and did some pond-dipping and lots and lots of running and squealing! Needless to say the boys were fast asleep each night as soon as their heads hit their very fluffy pillows!
Pembrokeshire and things to do
Pembrokeshire is beautiful with an amazing coastline, long sandy beaches and dramatic scenery. We were lucky enough to have fantastic sunny weather on the Saturday and enjoyed body boarding and sand castle building on Broad Haven beach. The boys particularly enjoyed exploring a ‘cave' they discovered at one end. We rounded the day off with fish and chips on the beach - perfect! The next day we cycled along (the very long) Newgale beach which was wonderful and spent a really enjoyable afternoon in St David's exploring the historical remains and the little shops. From the range of information in the cottage it seems that there is a load of child friendly activities and attractions in the local area from zoos to indoor water parks.
We had a fantastic time at Rosemoor, as soon as we arrived I felt relaxed and at ease because the cottage was clean and beautiful and the children were safe and happy. The beauty of Rosemoor for us was the combination of being very family friendly with plenty of safe space for the children to run and play (huge priority for parents of three young boys!) coupled with little touches of luxury which meant that we as parents felt that it was our holiday too.
Many thanks to Owen and Elin Pritchard & Gwion(6), Eban(4) and Wil(17 months) for their review
