About The Artisan Bakehouse
The cottages have adjoining soundproof doors which can be opened so that the cottages can be available as one unit if needed for larger parties and the heated outdoor swimming pool is available during the months of mid May – mid September.
This beautiful 16th Century Sussex Farmhouse offers two newly renovated self-catering cottages. Each stunning holiday cottage, sleeps a family of 4 and boasts real attention to detail. Booked together it cleverly opens up to accommodate a party of six adults and two children, plus cot if required. Set within 5 acres of gardens and woodland it provides a tranquil setting on the edge of the beautiful South Downs National Park, yet is just a few miles from the Sussex Coast! With the fabulous option to enjoy a delicious lunch and the most delicious cakes prepared and baked in the wonderful 'Bakehouse', babysitting should you fancy a night out, rabbits to feed AND the heated outdoor pool, you can rest assured that The Artisan Bakehouse ticks all the boxes for a relaxed and very happy family break.
The Artisan Bakehouse offers the perfect blend of adult relaxation whilst being superbly child and baby friendly, allowing families of all ages the chance to enjoy quality times together. Les and Louise have an impressive track record of providing excellent holiday stays for families, in France originally and now back in the UK. Combined with the cottages they run the simply fabulous tearoom - the array of cakes is dreamy (I can vouch for the deliciousness), the savouries fabulous and the range of drinks excellent. Order some and take out for tea or else just pop in and eat anyway.
The Holiday Cottages
Les and Louise have poured their heart and soul into renovating this gorgeous Sussex farmhouse into two stylish and very family friendly, holiday cottages with everything you could possibly need or want: beautiful cottages set within lovely gardens in a tranquil setting; accommodation with real attention to detail; heated outdoor pool and a scrummy welcome pack.
The two cottages Brewhouse and Milkhouse each sleep up to 4 plus babies in 2 bedrooms and are ideal for two families traveling together but wanting to retire to their own private space. Booked together they can also open up into one unit, to provide flexible accommodation via a soundproof interconnecting door.
Brewhouse - (sleeps 4 plus cot) Living room with huge Inglenook fireplace with woodburning stove. Fully fitted dishwasher, microwave, washer/dryer. Kitchen/dining room with 2 oven AGA, cloakroom Wc & lobby. One double ensuite shower room with kingsize bed, one twin room with washbasin. Room for travel cots.
Milkhouse - (sleeps 3/4 plus cot) Entrance lobby (great for wellies!), kitchenette (fridge, microwave/grill,kettle). Lounge/dining room with huge Inglenook fireplace with woodburning stove, large conservatory which is lovely to relax in the sun with views to the gardens beyond. Bathroom with roll top bath, double room with Kingsize bed and childrens adjoining suite which has a single day bed with roll out single bed if needed.
Baby and toddler equipment
Oodles of baby gear is provided to make life easier when traveling with a little one and hopefully cut down on the packing - travel cots, changing mats, highchairs, bottle steriliser, baby baths, monitor, blenders and cutlery and plates as well as a selection of books & toys to keep them entertained. Babysitting can also be arranged.
Kids will love to splash about in the heated outdoor pool, bounce on the trampoline or play in the sand pit. There are acres of pretty gardens and woodlands to explore with the local wildlife to spot, rabbits, pheasants and maybe even a deer! Enjoy egg collecting from the onsite chickens, feeding the ducks and rabbits or picking produce from the cottage vegetable patch and plentiful fruit trees.
Delicious Home Cooked Food
Being self-catered does make life easier when on holidays with little ones as it gives greater flexibility on meal times. But there are times when you just need a break and this is where The Artisan Bakehouse really comes into its own. Your hosts can provide hearty Sussex breakfasts with homemade bread & jams and freshly laid eggs from the chickens... and AGA cooked evening meals & deliveries! Food here is excellent and you can eat right next door without worrying about travel or baby-sitters!

For grownups, as well as the delicious meal options, an experienced qualified holistic massage therapist is available on site. Using the gorgeous ‘Covent Garden Neals Yard Remedies' - Organic Natural Health & Beauty products - there is a fabulous choice of treatments available for you to enjoy during your stay.
Location and Things To Do
The Artisan Bakehouse is set in a secluded rural idyll on the edge of the beautiful South Downs National Park yet is just 5 minutes from the pretty vibrant village of Steyning and beaches within an easy 10 minutes drive too! This is a perfect getaway for busy families in need of a stress free break and unlimited fresh air, with miles of countryside on the doorstep to walk & cycle and historic towns such as Arundel, Petworth & Chichester nearby. The cosmopolitan city of Brighton & Hove is within 25 mins and London a little over an hours train journey.
