The Away with the Kids review
The Dorchester is world renowned as being a luxurious hotel in the heart of London with impeccable service and style. But it might just not have occurred to you that The Dorchester would be place to stay with children and babies in tow. Let me assure you that the moment you step foot over that world famous threshold you will be made to feel like a VIP, whether you are a baby, toddler or a fully fledged adult. There are no crèches or play rooms but what there is, in abundance is impeccable service, understated glamour and a child-friendly welcome to one of the most impressive hotels in London. Although a discreetly grand experience for any discerning family, a stay here is also one that is supremely comfortable.
Family Rooms or Suites
Furnished in a luxurious country house style the rooms are spacious, graceful and surprisingly homely. All bedrooms are individually decorated and thus each room has its own unique charm. Each features an Italian marble bathroom, designed in the classic art deco style - echoing the hotel's 1930s origins and are said to have the deepest baths in London. To enjoy the hotels prime location I would request a room with a view over Hyde Park. The interconnecting rooms for families are ideal because they are accessed by their own mini lobby thus making for a more secure and relaxing stay. Suites available range in size from the Junior and Stanhope Suites to the generous Dorchester Suites and the famous Oliver Messel Suite.
Food and Restaurants
A wide range of dining is available to families in The Promenade, The Bar and The Grill. Leading off from the foyer, The Promenade is the perfect setting for afternoon tea or drinks where you can sink into a comfy sofa and just watch the world go by. In the evening guests can relax to the sound of live jazz, whilst enjoying a cocktail in the stylish bar. China Tang (2 AA Rosettes) offers traditional Cantonese cuisine with an exceptional choice for a vegetarian, while three Michelin star Alain Ducasse is London's finest contemporary French dining experiences. You can rest assured your taste buds are in for a gourmet delight.
The Dorchester Spa
It would be a shame to stay at the Dorchester without an indulgent spot of pampering in the highly acclaimed Spa. Not one to rest on its laurels the Dorchester has just revamped and transformed its Spa - a special treat perhaps for Mum or Dad to indulge. The Dorchester Spa has recently been awarded with the accolade of being the best Spa in the UK by Conde Nast Traveller. Once enclosed behind the impressive ornate door, cocooned in its luscious interiors for a session of pure indulgence, it is extremely hard to step back into the real world. The spa exudes art deco glamour with a distinctly contemporary edge and is home to a uniquely named Spatisserie for decadent time out with champagne, tea and cake.
Located opposite Hyde Park the largest of London's Royal Parks, The Dorchester is the ideal place for a family get away. By day the family can enjoy horse riding, boating, and wild life in Hyde Park, or visit one of the many other family attractions close by that London is celebrated for. The theatre desk is extremely helpful in securing last minute tickets to the popular shows.
