About The Headland Hotel & Spa

The Headland provides a fabulous opportunity for a family holiday throughout the year, with an enviable vantage point on the headland overlooking Fistral Beach. The choice of hotel and self-catering accommodation is ideal for all, but may be particularly appealing to larger family groups that may have different ideas as to what a holiday is all about.  Either way relaxed serenity, excellent service and fine food are something that you will all appreciate - with of course those views!

If strolls along the beach, building sand castles, enjoying glorious views, impeccable service, fine food, comfortable hotel rooms and a resplendent atmosphere appeals (all do to me) then The Headland Hotel fits the bill perfectly.  Sitting proudly above Fistral Beach – this Grade II listed, mammoth Victorian pile was purpose built for holidaymakers back in 1900. The Headland is historic, from the furore of the initial build to the superb ball room hosting London orchestras, to royal visitors and war-time occupation; the hotel has ‘lived’.  These days things are calm. The Headland offers a choice of traditional and contemporary style bedrooms and suites (96 in total), as well as 39 5* contemporary child-friendly holiday cottages, purpose built and equipped with all you might need for a self-catering stay.

Hotel Rooms

If you are staying in a hotel on a headland overlooking the sea then you HAVE to see the Ocean!  The Ocean Room has fabulous sea views, bunk beds for the children and enough space for you all – not sure about your children but mine love bunk beds!  Cots and z-beds may be supplied in most rooms and suites – a supplement of £35 per child (over 2 years) is payable for B & B per night.

The shared spaces are large enough for families, dog owners and fellow guests to relax companionably alongside one another, even during high season months.  The ballroom, though still sprung and able to accommodate a ball, is filled with relaxed sofas and armchairs to take tea, play board games, catch up and enjoy the ambience.

The Restaurants

Choose from the casual “Terrace” which serves locally sourced sea-food, pasta dishes, salads and daily specials – including a sensible kids menu.  It’s relaxed enough to wander in off the beach and order brunch, late lunch or high tea.  The more formal “Restaurant” is a delightful space with excellent fare – both offer impeccable service, both welcome children – naturally if formality doesn’t sit well with the kids then The Terrace is a given.  In either case you will be guaranteed  excellent food and a very lovely atmosphere to enjoy.  On fine days sitting outside on The Veranda is must, taking in the ocean views and fresh sea air, where the kids may potter about on the decking.

Room service is available.

Headland Cottages

With a range of one, two and three bedroom cottages self-catering family holidays at The Headland are ideal for families with tiny babies to larger families that don’t meet the 2.4 average!  A two bed cottage can sleep a family of four comfortably – should there be a third child under the age of 12 then a z-bed is available, as would be a cot in the double room.  The cottages were purpose built and based on a Cornish village – the site has charm, the cottages are very high spec, luxuriously and tastefully furnished and in some instances have fantastic sea views across Fistral Beach from the cottage, the master bedroom and the balcony/deck – how lovely!
The cottages are cosy, bright and rightfully coastal themed. Muted seaside colours work well with the gorgeous views – for those of you with a sea glimpse know that you are only a short walk away from a view of the sea. The plus side to these cottages is that the gardens and balconies are sheltered – and do have a reduced tariff!

All cottages have storage space (very important to be rid of the clutter that we ‘need’), an excellent kitchen to rustle up feasts or snacks, comfortable sofas in front of gas log fires to snuggle up in front of on blustery days and a ‘real’ master bedroom – that is en-suite with a 5’ four poster bed, made up with feather duvets and pillows – I could sleep now!  The extra rooms are twin-bedded rooms, again en-suite, with the same bedding type.

Waffle robes and hair-dryers are supplied, as are cosy towels for use after a relax in the double-ended bath.  The daily light clean throughout bathrooms and bedrooms is, I think, a fantastic idea!

Many of the two-bedroom cottages can hold a cot, and/or an extra pullout bed. The same is true of the three-bedded cottages that are particularly perfect for families with good-sized dining areas and, as you’d expect, more lounge room. The second and third bedrooms are en-suite twin rooms.

For babies cots are supplied with bedding and nappy bins and high chairs are put in your cottage too. Stair gates and fire-guards take care of the safety aspects – these are provided on request.

Each cottage has space outdoors, be it a balcony, grassy area or decking to enjoy the fresh air and, if you have one, sea view or glimpses of. Some of the cottages have mobility access – do mention your requirements on booking.

Food supplies can be delivered to your cottage from the nearby Trevilley Farm shop – fabulously farm fresh food to experiment in the kitchen with – and a restaurant or two on the hotel for when you are just too tired after a hard day on the beach!

Wi-fi is available in some cottages; otherwise you may need to get closer to the hotel.  A strong box is available for valuables.

Whether self-catering or staying in a hotel room teh facilites are excellent and available to all – there are indoor and outdoor pools, tennis, croquet, golf and putting greens in the grounds and use of them is free.  Water sports are available on the beach for all ages - a surf school is located on the premises, and even those too young to surf can go on a rock pool ramble.

During school Holidays the hotel runs a free daily activity program for children. These activities include craft, biscuit decorating, and visits from Newquay Zoo.

The Spa

Deserving special mention the Headland has a decadent, luxurious new spa that is managed by Martina Crkonova, a top therapist. The perfect treat time treatment may be booked in advance from a menu of things that you might not want to leave for – despite having a fabulous cottage to call home or a luxrious hotel suite.

The Headland provides a fabulous opportunity to experience the seasons head on throughout the year with an enviable vantage point overlooking one of Cornwall's finest beaches.
