About The Lazy Fish
Be prepared to fall in love with this holiday bolthole. The Lazy Fish certainly is a beauty, set in the breathtaking countryside of the Lake District.
The Lazy Fish is a stunning converted barn that manages perfectly to balance the tricky tightrope of being both deliciously luxurious yet also relaxingly child friendly. This stylish contemporary barn, sleeping a max of 6 guests, is situated in rural countryside between the market towns of Keswick and Cockermouth in the North Lakes. With a welcome sumptuous hamper brimming with local produce and an outdoor hot tub just beckoning to be used whilst the kids are tucked up in bed, the Lazy Fish is the ultimate luxury getaway. For the kids, the hosts own children live next door, on hand to make instant holiday chums. Standard baby paraphernalia is supplied and the kids are welcome to run off steam in the enclosed play area/garden with plenty of children’s toys and bike to borrow. Nearby Whinlatter Forest and Trotters World of Animals are firm family favourite day outs.
This converted barn offers spacious and stylish self-catering accommodation. With an outdoor spa pool, woodburning stove and an oval island ‘Castello' bath, this will be a perfect retreat. You can order delicious 3 course meals freshly prepared by a local chef and delivered to your door and a complimentary champagne hamper is included. So kick off your shoes and relax - its time to enjoy a most memorable stay in the Lakes.
The Holiday Cottage
Step through into The Lazy Fish and it will be hard to contain your glee. From its spacious open plan interior, complemented with modern furnishings, vaulted ceilings, under floor heating, large soft squishy sofas, a wood burning stove and mezzanine levels at either end... all superbly equipped and decorated with aplomb to the very highest standards. Access to The Lazy Fish is through your private garden and outdoor eating area, which features a small stream running by.
The open plan design boasts a large living and dining area with a fabulous well-equipped kitchen complete with granite worktops, coffee bean grinder and espresso maker and all mod cons. Spiral staircases lead to two open mezzanines. There are two double bedrooms, one on each level, both with the choice of super king-size or twin pocket-sprung beds. A double sofa bed is also available on one of the mezzanines. Shower in the walk-in wet room or bathe in the gorgeous oval free-standing designer bath.
The thoughtful little extras go a long way to make your holiday more enjoyable and that is why you have at your disposal cots, highchairs, sterilisers and numerous other baby items. With no need to overload your car as a selection of toys, books, games and DVDs are available for your use. And for the grown-ups, the welcome sumptuous hamper brimming with local produce means that your fridge will be stacked with delicious goodies and rustling up an omelet for hungry little ones eliminates the need for a dash to the shops as soon as you get there. For those who would like a break from cooking your hosts can arrange homemade meals or a private chef to come and cook a celebration meal. For the ultimate relaxation beauty and massage treatments can be arranged.
Outside the rear of the accommodation is the inviting outdoor hot-tub, kept at a constant warm temperature. The owner’s, Mark and Rachel Wilson, live handily next door with their young family. They have no qualms with the younger guests popping over to share the quality outdoor play equipment and a very attractive play tree-house, which eagle eyes will, no doubt, spot from the rear of the cottage. There is a large selection of adult mountain bikes and kids bikes that are kept in secure storage next to the barn that you are welcome to borrow during your stay – plus bags of space, should you wish to store your own.
Mark also likes to keep busy by looking after his small, but growing collection of farmyard animals. His impressive party trick is to whistle at the handful of sheep who dutifully come racing to the gate to be fed. The sheep are all cross breeds known as "mules", mainly a mix of Leicester and Swaledale. There are currently nine cows with a visiting bull so should have some baby calves next summer. There are also two friendly dogs which completes the extended animal family.
Things to Do Nearby
With nearby Whinlatter Forest you will be sorely tempted to get yourself on two wheels as it boasts superb challenging bike rides with stunning views of the Lake District. If this sounds a little daunting the kids may prefer the new Whinlatter Forest WildPlay. This is a fabulous adventure trail set within the forest whereby the kids are challenged across 9 different and exciting play activities. And after everyone is worn out there is a café pit stop in which to refuel.
You can enjoy fell-walking and mountain biking from your own door-step with rock climbing, water sports and much more nearby. After a day on the fells treat your body to a water jets massage in the outdoor spa pool before curling up in front of the roaring wood burning stove.
