The Old Stables

Child friendly bed & breakfast

About The Old Stables

The Old Stables is stunning B&B accommodation in the heart of the National Forest.

The Old Stables is that rare thing - a B&B that’s just perfect for families. Beautiful accommodation with luxurious furnishings, delicious continental breakfasts served in your private dining room, and super child-friendly touches and baby and toddler equipment make for stress-free packing and relaxing breaks.

The location is great - set in a lovely village and close to loads of attractions and the great outdoors. Take your bikes (or hire them) and explore the national forest on 2 wheels - there’s secure bike storage available at the accommodation, or head further afield for theme parks, zoos and more beautiful countryside.

The Rooms

This newly refurbished guest wing provides a home from home for grown-ups and kids. Loads of light, beams and little touches (such as yummy cakes on arrival) will make you all feel very welcome. The main private room has a king sized bed with White Company egyptian cotton linens, as well as lounge space with sofa, table and chairs, TV with Sky and DVD player. You’ll also have your own tea and coffee facilities, plus a desk (internet access provided).

The adjoining children’s room is gorgeous, with full-size bunk beds and lots of toys, games and books suitable for children. The private shower room can be accessed from both bedrooms via the private landing. Towels are provided. The large shower can accommodate a baby bath for very young children if required. Outside the garden has plenty of space and sitting areas.

There is a lovely play park with recreation grass a few minutes walk from The Old Stables, and the owners’ dog Molly will love making friends with you (don’t worry- she’s kept away from the guest wing!). For days out you’re spoilt for choice: try Drayton Manor and Thomas Land (only half an hours drive from The Old Stables) or Twycross Zoo where you can get up close to the chimps, or ape about in the soft play area. The National Forest Adventure Farm near Burton on Trent has great indoor and outdoor attractions for younger children.

Budding historians should head to Bosworth Battlefield Heritage Centre where you can also enjoy craft activities and seasonal events and shows. Families with a taste for snowsports will be in their (chilly!) element with the huge snowdome at Tamworth, as well as outdoor skiing and a toboggan run at Swadlincote.

Food & Drink

Breakfast is served in your private dining area (or on the sunny patio if the weather permits) and includes cereals, fresh fruit, and options for eggs, cheese, cold meats and yummy baked breakfast items. Juices and milkshakes are available too, and you can make use of the owner’s microwave and fridge throughout your stay.

The village has a well stocked shop with fresh fruit and veg and there is a lovely cafe with homemade cakes and a village pub. The small town of Melbourne (15 mins away) has a lovely cafe “Jacks” frequented by many families as well as family friendly pubs.

Kids & Parents

Owners Julie & Charlie have a wealth of family travel experience with their own children and grandchildren, and have made sure that your little ones will feel as welcome as you at The Old Stables. And that means leaving home for your holiday without the worry of packing up the entire house as you’ll be able to borrow pretty much everything including baby bath,  baby monitor, step, children’s toilet seat, potty, high chair, travel cot (full sized), bedding, and stair gates, as well as plastic cutlery, plastic plates and bowls for breakfast time.

The children’s room has room darkening blinds plus there is a full range of toys, games, puzzles, colouring, soft toys, DVDs and books to enjoy. Should one of you prefer a bath to a shower then you are welcome to use the main bathroom, and if clothes get muddy on a day out then you can use the washing machine and dryer (for an extra charge).

The Owners: Julie & Charlie Pritchard

“We have made our barn into a welcoming place for sharing with all guests in a great location in the centre of The National Forest on the borders of Leicestershire and South Derbyshire.”

Beautiful and welcoming accommodation perfect for short breaks in the National Forest.
