About Bishopstrow House - a child-friendly Hotel & Spa
Built in 1817 the gorgeously luxurious Bishopstrow Hotel and Spa has undergone a makeover thanks to Longleat Enterprises Ltd the owners of the infamous Longleat Safari Park. Set in 27 acres of tranquility this child-friendly hotel offers elegant and contemporary bedrooms and suites, a very warm welcome, excellent food and fantastic days out opportunities for all the family - quite the perfect family break venue!
Karen and her girls visited:
Bishopstrow does not readily jump to mind as a family friendly hotel but under new ownership and perfectly located for day trips to Longleat, Bath or Stonehenge it is putting all the ingredients in place to become a family favourite.
We arrived on a dark January evening to a very warm welcome, it's always a good start when someone arrives un-beckoned to help with bags and this they did with plenty of friendly chatter as we walked to the room passing newly painted corridors.
Our allocated room was in fact a rather fabulous suite, stylish and spacious the squeals of delight said it all, a kingside bed piled with cushions in the main room and comfy sofa bed made up ready for the girls in the other. Whilst there were no child friendly welcome touches in the room the fruit platter was enjoyed by them and we all fought over the truffles.
The bathroom was equally luxurious, double shower / wet room area and large free standing bath, massively spacious and with lots of warm towels and elemis products a plenty!
The hotel was quiet when we visited and so dinner was moved into a smaller dining room serving the all day menu, this was perfect as the atmosphere was relaxed and easy, staff were attentive and happy to chat which always goes down well with my girls. It was a perfectly pitched evening and we enjoyed watching the flurry of activity when a family arrived late with 4 very little people in tow, the staff were great ensuring they got food quickly, games to entertain and yet kept the few grown up couples at a distance to enjoy their evening child free.
Bishopstrow does have indoor and outdoor pools, good for family splashes but in need of some updating. The spa is more up to date and well worth escaping to for some time out and pampering treats with a great range to choose from.
A hotels ability to welcome families is often tested at breakfast, here they did it beautifully, there was lots of choice and every individual request was dealt with delivering each of us a bespoke breakfast that was genuinely really good. The more challenging family of 6 caused great amusement with other guests but it was great to see the breakfast team unphased deal with every request they had.
Bishopstrow is definitely reinventing itself as a country house hotel of style the new interior design is a touch Babington, the vibe definitely relaxed not stuffy, the price point is realistic and for families they offer a great hotel where children can be seen and heard and looked after if not at the top if the agenda. Definitely a great place to visit before it becomes achingly cool!
