Our detailed review to follow.
Bouchon is a wonderfully tranquil and characterful former farm estate surrounded by the beautiful Gascon countryside. Despite its privacy, it is still close to a number of historic Gascon towns and villages with markets and family-friendly restaurants. Bouchon has two separate houses, Bouchon Haut and Bouchon Bas. These houses, which can be rented together or separately, offer complete privacy from each other whilst also providing the perfect accommodation for two families renting together. The houses sit in three hectares of grounds which include a large barn, an orchard, woods, a large swimming pool, a picturesque ruin and adjoin a river.
Bouchon Bas is the second house on the estate. The downstairs is mainly open plan, with a very large sitting room (and wood burner) which moves into a dining area and then round to the kitchen area. There is also a separate twin room and linked shower room/WC on the ground floor. Upstairs you will find two well appointed en-suite double rooms.
The grounds include a pool (12x6m) which is shared between Bouchon Haut and Bouchon Bas.
There is a table tennis table in the barn beside the house, which also includes various family games (boules, badminton, football nets, footballs). There is also a DVD selection (with a 32 inch LCD tv and bluray player) . On the music side, there is a mini-hifi system.
Bouchon Haut is the main house. Downstairs, there is a large well equipped kitchen which leads (via a utility room with a downstairs WC) to a covered terrace which overlooks a large part of the grounds and is a lovely place to spend time with friends and family and watch the sunset over a glass or two of the local wine.
The downstairs also includes a large, more formal, dining room and a cosy "winter" sitting room and a "summer" sitting room with large double doors opening out onto a South-West facing terrace.
Upstairs there are two en-suite double bedrooms (both including larger than normal double beds), and a twin bedroom together with a separate "family" shower room and WC. There is also a study area upstairs with a laptop connected to the internet.
There is an extensive DVD selection (with a 40 inch LCD tv and bluray player) . On the music side, there is a wide selection of CDs and two Sony mini stereo systems which have bluetooth capability (for connecting to phones/ipads/iphones).
Child friendly things to do
