About Lower Wood Farm Country Cottages

We loved our family holiday here as the cottage was beautiful, the kids loved the daily swim and the pace to run around - it was also perfectly located near the coast and family friendly attractions.

Lower Wood Farm Cottages comprises eight beautifully furnished and immaculately presented self-catering family holiday cottages in the Norfolk countryside – though not so ‘country’ as you can be at the seaside as quickly as it takes you to load the car for the day – you get the best of both worlds. The facilities for a happy kids holiday are fantastic – indoor heated pool, outdoor children’s play paddock, games room with pool table and table football and an indoor play area for under 5s. There’s more – the Courtyard area sites the playhouse in which every ride-on vehicle imaginable is stored for the kids to travel in squares safely around the perimeter whilst adults might grab a bit of R & R in the lovely gardens..

Just two miles from the Norfolk Coast Lower Wood Farm Cottages are a fabulous base to see the local sites or simply enjoy your accommodation – which you most certainly will.  Being one mile from the main road ensures your peace, tranquillity and child safety - a huge bonus.  The four or five star Visit Britain graded cottages ensure your comfort. Sitting in three acres of grounds bordering the Norfolk Broads National Park the place is beautiful.  And you will be made most welcome by Jill who really knows what she’s doing and knows what you might want, hence the fab cottages and facilities.

Holiday Cottages

The cottages are beautifully furnished and so very well equipped.  Those around the court-yard are perfect for families with toddlers who will merrily spend time test-driving the vehicles – or wheelbarrows!  It’s also a great spot to have a get-together given it seats over 20 guests and has a barbeque ready to burn sausages (that’s what happens at our barbeques).

All cottages are spacious and perfectly set out – no trying to squeeze through a door with babe in arms at this place (actually at any place on this site!). Beds are so very inviting you’ll maybe want to jump on them (restrain yourselves) - all linen and towels are provided.  A welcome tea party awaits your arrival with table laid and delicious cakes waiting to help to get your hols off to a relaxed and gracious start.  Cottages sleep from 4 up to 9 – some have triple rooms, some have HUGE bathrooms – all are spotlessly clean and will most definitely be more than acceptable.

The latest addition to Lower Wood Farm is Cape Cottage - a new build luxury 5* Gold Award holiday cottage which has been designed to be fully accessible and can sleep a family of 5 + 1 plus cot. This accessible cottage is mobility M2 Grade and cleverly incorporates and blends in the requirements of both the able and the less able visitor.

The fantastic family facilities really make Lower Wood Farm stand out – you can enjoy shared use of the gardens, patio areas, the lovely indoor heated swimming pool with cubicles, showers and baby changing facilities, the outdoor children's play paddock with swings, slides, goal posts, a pitch and putt and cricket pitch, the games room with pool table, table tennis, table football and the under 5yrs indoor play area, complete with babies much to Aggie’s joy.

Should you rather there is lots of space to just sit and zone out and enjoy the lovely, tranquil countryside.

For those times when you just cannot be bothered to move or cook you might just pre-order a prepared meal or two from Whelan Bespoke Catering, a local company offering freshly pre-prepared meals which are delivered to your door.  All dishes are prepared from fresh ingredients and are delivered ready for you to heat and serve at your convenience.  Really - why go out when you can sit at your own table knowing the kids are safe and happily occupied giving you a chance to relax – just what holidays are about – remember?

To Do

With stunning beaches within an easy ride and glorious countryside on your doorstep you are spoilt for choice.  Jill has lots of info on places to go and must sees – as well as excellent places to eat.

From the farm there are footpaths leading to Mautby, West Caister and through the marshes to the River Bure.  Go wildlife spotting on the marshes and find barn owl, deer, kingfisher, woodpeckers, hawks, ducks and geese.

The country lanes are easily accessible for cycling to local villages. There are beautiful villages to be found and lots of country pubs.

Then there are the glorious beaches – flat or dunes and perfect sand-castle building texture.  Go to Blakeney for the boat trips to the seals, take the Steam Railways – big or small gauge – to charming towns, visit the lifeboat station at Caister and you simply have to visit Great Yarmouth for the seaside kitsch and, for me, the lovely childhood memories (it might make some of you come out in hives!).  Do visit Caister Castle and of course the sedate Filby broad.

N.B. There is a pond away from the cottages should you wish to feed the ducks.  Do be aware with older kids that may be free to roam.
