About Potash Barns

Potash Barns is a small complex of three beautifully presented, converted period barns in the heart of rural Suffolk near to the town of Framlingham and just 12 miles from the gorgeous Heritage coast. With a large family of resident animals on-site there is plenty to keep young animal lovers amused. The simple pleasure of daily egg collecting and feeding the baby animals is actively encouraged. The courtyard area is kept traffic free to allow children to play or cycle in safety. For the more energetic of children there is a fantastic outdoor play area set away from the holiday cottages where a trampoline, football goal, badminton net and swing can be found. A large separate games room is just the ideal place to chill out and meet other holiday chums. Families can also take advantage of having a cooked meal ready for your arrival – now there’s a warm welcome!

Potash Barns are striking family holiday cottages bursting with charm and character. The stunning Suffolk coastline nearby together with a menagerie of farm animals and plenty of space for children to roam free provides the perfect backdrop for families wishing to discover a rural retreat with plenty to keep all ages happy.

The self catering accommodation in converted barns on a farm is found on an 8 acre smallholding in the sleepy hamlet of Brundish. Potash Barns are located 4 miles from the county town of Framingham and just 12 miles to the Suffolk beaches boasting the coastal gems Southwold, Thorpeness and Aldeburgh.

The owners Claire and David live on-site so there is always someone on-hand to ask for the best places to go and eat. They are well placed to advise families as they have three children of their own so are a valuable resource of local information. Potash Farm is no longer a working farm but has lots of animals that are the resident children's pets. Little ones can get to meet the 2 cats, 8 Pygmy goats, and 14 chickens and a goose called Becky. They are all friendly and as we bowled up Becky was proudly parading across the courtyard to greet us! Every morning kids and parents alike can help to find the freshly laid eggs and perhaps scurry off back to fry it up for breakfast. You can even join in with feeding the baby kids and lambs.

The Self Catering Holiday Accommodation

The Potash Barns complex consists of three tastefully converted Grade ll listed farm buildings finished to a high standard and rated as 4* holiday homes by the English Tourist Board. Old Oak and GoatWillow are rented together to make one large barn for 9 people, Cart Lodge can be rented on its own or with the other barns (Old Oak and Goat Willow) to make great accomodation for larger families, but with a separate building for those who like to have a little of their own space.

All barns are fully equipped with modern appliances, excellent range cookers and very comfortable furnishings. Each home sleeps 4 people comfortably and can adequately stretch to 6 people with the use of sofa beds, or cots for babies. The barns are bursting with charm and character befitting of a period property and feature exposed beams and stud work throughout. The decor compliments these historical features and provides a relaxing and homely environment.

The original barn was divided into Goat Willow Barn at one end, and Old Oak Barn at the other. It is worth mentioning the master bedroom in Old Oak Barn has a fantastic half glazed sky light which gives a superb view of the sky at night.

Old Oak & Goat Willow Barn has a central living and dining area where three sofas sit in a horseshoe in front of a log burner.
Behind the sofa area is the dining table which seats 13 people comfortably with easy access to both kitchen areas. We also have a bookcase that houses board games and a few books.

To the north across the farm yard, the barn is faced by The Cart Lodge. This building was completely renovated, and provides very comfortable, single storey accommodation. Again this can sleep up to 6 people and features a Victorian roll top bath, beautiful elm wooden floors throughout the bedroom areas and a quality elm kitchen fully equipped and user friendly as possible. Cart Lodge accepts dogs (max of 2)

Child Friendly Facilities

Set well away from the holiday properties is the grassy outdoor play area where children can play to their hearts content and shriek with delight without fear of upsetting other holiday guests. Here you will find a swing/climbing area, football area as well as the ever popular trampoline!

The indoor games room is a fabulous space away from the cottages to allow parents and children another alternative for a place to retreat to and enjoy a game of table tennis, table football, darts or pool. Dotted around this room are bikes of different sizes which holiday guests may borrow. The courtyard is kept free of vehicles to enable little ones space to play or cycle in safety.

Extras for Families

Arriving at Potash Barns after a long journey you might truly appreciate not having to cook that first meal. If requested in advance your meal will be freshly prepared and waiting for you in your cottage. You will also find a welcome pack of fruit, organic veg, wine and the farms own free range eggs. Organic ally produced local pork meat and poultry are available to order.

Why not let the owners pre-book you a romantic meal out (child free) in one of numerous restaurants or pubs nearby, as they can provide a babysitting service (CRB Registered).

Things for Families to do in Suffolk

Potash Barns can arrange for your further enjoyment, golf, fishing, shooting, horse riding and horse drawn carriage rides - all with prior arrangement.

Being equi-distant between Norwich and Ipswich, Potash Barns is ideally situated to explore and enjoy all the sights, culture and entertainment of East Anglia and its beautiful Heritage coast. You are lucky to have the coastal towns of Southwold, Aldeburgh, Snape, Dunwich and Minsmere on your doorstep. Walberswick is one of Claire's family favourites and is one of the most relaxing, unspoilt beaches in the country. Felixstowe and Great Yarmouth are a little further away, but easily accessible
