Feed the ducks and trout from the bridge and enjoy a wide range of walks from the door. The nearest pub is one mile away and welcomes children and dogs in one of its rooms. There are loads of attractions nearby, local shopping and cafes at Tideswell (5 minutes by car) and Alton Towers is only 38 miles away. The holiday cottage is situated in Litton Mill near Millers Dale in the heart of the Peak District National Park and is an ideal location for walking, cycling, touring and rock climbing. The four former railway tunnels on the Monsal Trail have been reopened so that bikers and walkers can now follow the original railway line route from Chee Dale (outside Buxton) to Bakewell. The cycle and walking trail runs right behind Riverside House. Although it is a short steep climb up from the house, once there it is perfectly suitable for pushchairs, bicycles and dogs. Alternatively you can start the walk at the disused Miller's Dale station to avoid the climb from the back of the holiday cottage. Guests can store their bikes securely in the garage and there is also a hose for cleaning bikes.
Buxton boasts a wide range of shops from Waitrose to Café Nero, Marks & Spencer to Next as well as some of the best in specialist designer boutiques. Buxton’s Market days are Tuesday and Saturday on The Market Place in Higher Buxton, which also boasts a variety of outlets for those in need of a little retail therapy. There is also a monthly Farmers' Market in the Pavilion Gardens and an annual Continental Market bristling with traders from across Europe.
