About Swinton Park

A fantastic family friendly castle with fabulous cookery courses - even for the kids!

Swinton Park castle just oozes with grandeur and a charm of times past yet compliments the luxuries and comforts that are completely 21st century. A grade II* listed building of which dates back to the 1600’s - it is a 31 bedroom luxury castle hotel and is set in 200 acres of parkland, lakes and gardens. Semerwater is a Suite with interlocking rooms which is primarily aimed at families. Swinton Park has a state of the art cookery school which also runs cooking courses for children.

The approach to the castle exudes glamour, past the gatehouse and up the sweeping drive through the deer park arriving at the portico where guests are met in the turret lobby. Little Ones will think they are extra special when they are met on arrival with their own goodie bags. The castle is surrounded by the family estate in which guests have access to rivers, reservoirs, moorland, dales and the beautiful Yorkshire countryside. Lavishly furnished, this is a unique opportunity to enjoy a stately home experience, combining the traditional warmth of a family home with all the modern creature comforts of a contemporary hotel - rooms boast plasma TV‘s and Wi-Fi.

With excellent facilities, high levels of service and quality of cuisine, this is one of the highest rated hotels in Yorkshire and Cumbria. Each of the 31 en-suite spacious bedrooms are individually designed, with a choice of views across the gardens, lake, parkland or gatehouse. Semerwater is a brand new Family Suite with interlocking rooms which is primarily aimed at families. Award winning cuisine is served in the sumptuously furnished dining room, with an emphasis on the seasonal and local produce sourced from the hotel's four acre walled garden (the largest hotel kitchen garden in the UK) and surrounding estate. Children over eight are welcome in the dining room, though the hotel does request you take an early table. Food can be sent up to rooms and children's options are available.

The courtyard houses a spa in the conservatory and there is also a gym and a wide variety of health and beauty treatments available. The exclusive use spa, is equipped with a sauna, Jacuzzi and relaxation zone, and there is also an Exercise Room. Further facilities include a bar (in the family museum), a private cinema and a billiard room which doubles up as a playroom during the day with cupboards full of games and toys.

The restored Georgian stables are home to the state of the art Cookery School, run by Executive Chef, Stephen Bulmer with a wide range of courses running throughout the year. Gilly Robinson is also running her own courses, Family Food and Children's Cookery courses, which focus on the basic essentials of family friendly food, with practical recipes with that offer flexibility and scope for variety.

The grounds have so much to offer for children's entertainment - there is the free use of two bikes and on windy days kite flying is a great pastime. For younger children, a wooden tree fort with slide and sand pit can entertain for hours. Be entertained at the new Birds of Prey Centre and meet the owls, falcons and hawks with flying displays every morning.  Horse riding and fishing are also available together with clay pigeon shooting, golf and off-road driving. There is also a busy Calendar of Events running throughout the year that appeal to families in particular the Easter Egg Trails, Halloween and Children's Cookery Courses - please enquire for further details and pricing.

It has all the grandeur of times past with modern touches - nothing could highlight this more than the sight of a helipad against the backdrop of this historic castle.
