About The Rubens At The Palace
Be prepared to be in a constant state of awe - with close proximity to the grandeur of Buckingham Palace, it is unavoidable.
Get practising your bows and curtseys as The Rubens at the Palace, overlooks London’s most famous family residence, Buckingham Palace. A child friendly hotel it offers a wonderful experience for kids and parents alike. The skilled and dedicated Concierge Team includes a Director of Fun who specialises in making sure that children are never short of things to do, either inside the hotel or out.
Arriving at The Rubens with the prospect of residing so close to the Queen sent the kids into an excitable over-drive. With friendly welcomes all round from the dedicated staff we were greeted by the Director of Fun who was at our services to help suggest, plan and book any activity if we were stuck for ideas whilst visiting London with children. We took a breather with a quick refreshment break in the lounge decorated by regal memorabilia (just so you don't forget where you are) where a skilled patisserie chef makes afternoon tea a special treat.
We were allocated The Kings Suite and eagerly anticipated what was behind the front door. The girls rushed in down the private hall way and to the shrieks of delight, I think we could safely say the girls were extremely delighted with their sleeping quarters and the packed goodie bags. The handwritten, personally addressed postcards welcoming them was a thoughtful touch. Together with an age appropriate travel game meant there was absolutely no need to borrow the Wii (but was handy to know it would be available if mum and dad ever needed a backup plan). The girls then immediately got ready for bed as they wanted to try out their bathrobes and slippers even though it was 1.00pm.
Meanwhile we had silly grins on our faces as it was the first time we had been allocated a canopied four poster bed. The room was beautifully decorated with two walk in wardrobes and a spacious bathroom with a large Jacuzzi bath. Although our suite was top of the range there are some excellent value family packages are available to make your stay a truly wonderful experience at the best possible value. These include special rates on interconnecting or adjacent rooms - great for families of 4, or free meals for a child under 12 that shares your room, while the full buffet breakfast offers a huge range of options to suit everyone and set them up for the day.
The Rubens at the Palace is ideally placed with just a brief five minute stroll will take you to the regal Buckingham Palace and The Mall. A visit to the Palace around the state rooms was a unique insight and an experience not to be missed (please check on opening times before planning a visit). For young and old theatre lovers alike, the musical Wicked is performing at The Apollo Victoria Theatre just around the corner for which tickets can be arranged for. One of our favourite trips was hopping on the number 52 bus for 5 minutes and going to Hyde Park after dinner. We went to the Princess Diana Memorial water feature where the kids paddled and splashed to their hearts content until we were thrown out at closing time (8 p.m.). The park took on a magically aura at dusk and we also discovered it has a Lido, boating lake and children's play area.
The Rubens at the Palace is a fantastic child friendly hotel which offers a wonderful experience for kids and parents alike. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit and the girls will always have their teddy bear memento to remind them when they were treated like princesses. Perhaps next time we will take advantage of the fully qualified in-house nanny service. With plenty of family friendly places to see in London, next time cannot come soon enough!
