Accessibility

The 17th century properties have entrance lips and steps both on entry and on the ground floor between rooms/areas. The Old Farmhouse has a ground floor bedroom and ensuite bathroom, this bathroom can be accessed via 3 small steps from the bedroom. All other bedrooms and bathrooms are upstairs.

With its valley setting, wheelchair users and guests with mobility difficulties may find Coulscott Estate difficult to navigate, due its steep hilly terrain, soft ground and gravelled driveways.

Guests with mobility difficulties or registered disabled can park directly outside the entrance to the house.

About the owners

Alice and Luke East

Listed since December 2024

We moved to Coulscott with our two young children, Ella and Daniel, in 2021, having relocated from Surrey to this 17-acre pocket of magical North Devon countryside. As a family we share the estate with over 50 feathered & furry residents - a charming brood of alpacas, goats, guinea pigs, ducks, rabbits and pigs! We live on site, so we are always here to help if you need us, but are far enough away that you don’t have to see us  all week if you don’t want to! Keen to offer our guests a holiday to remember rather than just a place to stay, we make sure our guests have everything they might need at their fingertips, from the nearest surf school to our fabulous private chef, local brewers and artists whose works are proudly displayed in our cottages. We continue to invest in and evolve the business by adding new or improved features all the time. We look forward to welcoming you to this beautiful corner of North Devon.

Owner recommendations

  • Woolacombe Beach (20 minutes drive) - recently named "Best Beach in Britain" by the Sunday Times.Miles of never ending flat sands to enjoy sunbathing, sandboarding (on the dunes!) sandcastling, swimming, surfing or a game of beach cricket!

  • Ilfracombe Sea Safari (15 minutes drive) run two Humber ribs - extremely stable boats used to get you 'up close and personal' with North Devon's wildlife. Travelling up to 20 knots along our coast of outstanding natural beauty with padded seats for your comfort. These boats are very suited for passengers who may suffer from sea sickness due to our vessel's exceptional stability. Suitable for all ages and dog's welcome.

Based in Ilfracombe harbour the Ilfracombe Princess cruises the coast to see seals, porpoises and dolphins! Enjoy one of the most dramatic landscapes in England aboard their safe and comfortable vessel.

  • Exmoor Zoo (10 minutes drive) - Enjoy a day out at one of the “West-country’s hidden gems” on the edge of the Exmoor National Park. Here you can experience a truly unique rural zoo set into a valley in North Devon. Discover rare and unusual animals seldom found in other zoos like binturong and tayra, along with everybody's favourites too, like meerkats, lemurs and pumas! There are interactive and encounter sessions running at timed intervals all day – all of which you can join in with, such as wallaby feed and petting, meeting their alpacas as well as educational encounter activities and talks about the animals they look after!

  • Watermouth Castle (10 minutes drive) The Castle, Edwardian history. Dungeon labyrinth. Courtyard – Magical Multi-Coloured Fountain Show, Merrygoland, rides and games. Gnome land – speaks for its self. An all inclusive price covers every thing except coin operated machines, shops and restaurant.

  • Heddon Valley National Trust (5 minutes drive) Just 3 miles drive from Coulscott is the National Trusts' glorious Heddon Valley and the Hunters Inn.

A favourite walk of ours this is a gentle stroll through ancient woodland alongside the River Heddon, to where it meets the sea between some of England's highest cliffs.

Designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest, the Heddon Valley is home to a variety of wildlife including otters and the rare high brown fritillary butterfly. You'll also find a restored 19th-century lime kiln on the beach, having the fab traditional country pub at the end of the walk is a real treat too!

  • Dinner at the award winning Pyne Arms (5 minutes drive) The award-winning Pyne Arms is consistently rated as one of the best gastropubs in the country, serving top-quality modern British fare. The pub is set in the picturesque village of East Down, just 4 miles from Coulscott. A family run pub serving good honest and award winning food & drink, in warm and welcoming surroundings. Menus are created using local & fresh produce throughout the south west, at its best, and in season. Our favourite local gastropub!
