The lovely Golwg y Cwm offers a comfortable, family-friendly space with everything you need for a relaxing getaway. The cottage has three beautifully decorated bedrooms, each designed with comfort in mind. The master bedroom features a king-size bed and plenty of storage – a peaceful retreat after a day of adventures. The second upstairs bedroom is perfect for children with two single beds and plenty of floor space for playing and making a mess! The family bathroom has both a shower and bath, so you luxuriate in a hot soak if desired. The third bedroom is located downstairs, and has a comfortable double bed as well as an ensuite wetroom, making it perfect for guests with mobility needs. All bedrooms are bright and airy, with soft furnishings that complement the natural beauty of the surroundings.

The spacious, open-plan lounge area is the heart of the home, perfect for unwinding after a day of exploring. With a plush sofa, a log burner for those chilly evenings, and a movie night setup, it’s the ideal space to kick back and enjoy quality time with loved ones. The large windows let in plenty of natural light and offer stunning views of the surrounding countryside. In the same open-plan space you’ll find a spacious kitchen and dining area, ideal for family feasts. Outside, you'll find a private area, offering a safe space for children to play, or for you to enjoy a glass of wine while soaking in the stunning valley views. If weather permits, there’s a picnic table awaiting al fresco dining. The cottage also boasts a private woodland area with walking trails, great for exploring or really delving into the peaceful surroundings. With both indoor and outdoor spaces designed to cater to families and nature lovers alike, Golwg y Cwm is a great balance of comfort, convenience, and charm.

Whether you're planning to prepare a hearty breakfast before heading out to explore or a relaxed family dinner in the evening, you'll find everything you need in the kitchen. This self-catering cottage comes fully equipped with everything you’ll need including a range cooker, dishwasher and utensils, through to pots, pans, cutlery and glassware. The dining area is adjacent to the lounge, with a stylish wooden dining table that comfortably seats six; perfect for everything from casual breakfasts to more formal dinners. For supplies, you can pick up essentials at the Nisa in Newcastle Emlyn. Or drive half an hour to either Cardigan or Camarthan for more options and larger supermarkets. Alternatively, head to one of Pembrokeshire’s many farm shops where you can buy the very best, and tastiest local produce. Whether you prefer to cook or dine out, the West Wales location gives you easy access to the county’s fantastic food scene. For a touch of luxury, consider enjoying a relaxing evening with a takeaway from one of the local eateries. Enjoyed in front from the comfort of the decking with valley views.

Or if you’d rather head out, there’s a whole host of nearby restaurants and cafes with delicious menus. In nearby Newcastle Emlyn, you'll find a variety of everything from traditional Welsh dishes to international cuisine. The highly acclaimed Nag's Head is just a short drive away, and serves up gorgeous, locally sourced gastro-pub food (and a great kids menu) in a welcoming atmosphere. If you're after some seafood, a must by the coast, The Pentre Arms in Llangrannog offers fresh catches from local waters. There are plenty of charming cafes offering coffee, homemade cakes, sandwiches and fish and chips dotted along the Pembrokeshire coastline too. If you're in the mood for something special, The Cliff Hotel in Cardigan serves up exceptional meals with a contemporary twist on traditional Welsh fare, while The Daffodil offers great Sunday dinners and a good kids menu just around the corner. There are plenty of charming cafes dotted along the Pembrokeshire coastline too, if you’re looking for a coffee pitstop or a relaxed lunch out.

Whether you're here for a peaceful retreat or an active getaway, there's something for everyone at Golwg y Cwm. On-site, you'll find plenty of opportunities for relaxation and recreation. Take a leisurely stroll through the magical private woodlands, where you can revel in the beauty of the surrounding countryside, let the kids roam freely, paddle in the stream, and try to skim stones. Be sure to bring some binoculars too; with an abundance of birds and wildlife, it's also a great spot for birdwatching. Back at the house there’s plenty more outdoor space for children to run around and play games, and two cheeky pygmy goats, Ellie and Alfie, who are always ready for a snack and a bit of attention. For a wildlife adventure off-site, take a boat trip to Skomer Island, a nature reserve with an unparalleled puffins and seabirds population. Or spot rare animals like giraffes and penguins at nearby Folly Farm, which is also home to a vintage fairground.

Away from the cottage, you’ll find a wealth of exciting activities that make it a perfect base for exploring Pembrokeshire. The Pembrokeshire Coast Path, renowned for its breathtaking scenery, is just a short drive away and offers miles of walking routes, with dramatic coastal cliffs, golden beaches, and picturesque coves. If you're lucky, you might even spot dolphins while strolling along the coast, or at New Quay (known for its friendly dolphin population!). Active families and thrill-seekers can try their hand at go-karting, archery, mini-golf or on a high ropes course, all available a short drive from the cottage. For older children, book a coasteering session where you can explore cliffs, swim in crystal-clear waters, and experience an unforgettable adrenaline rush. And after all of the above, you can spend your afternoons and evenings soaking in the warmth of the indoor hot tub, snuggled up with a book by the wood burning stove or enjoy a relaxing glass of wine on your private deck, soaking in the stunning valley views as you reflect on a day well spent.

This is a cottage designed with accessibility in mind, offering wide doorways and a ramp for easy access. For guests with mobility needs, there is a downstairs double bedroom complete with ensuite wetroom. The Golwg y Cwm team are always happy to assist with any special requests to ensure a comfortable stay, and encourage guests to get in contact in advance with any specific requirements.

Where is it and how do you get there?

By Road

Golwg y Cwm is located around half an hour off the A40 at Camarthen. It’s approximately three and a half hours from Birmingham, and four hours from the North West or London and the South.

By Air

Cardiff Airport is just under two hours away, with regular domestic and international flights.

By Rail

The nearest train station is Carmarthen, where you can catch direct trains to Cardiff. From there you’ll find services to Bristol, London, Manchester and other destinations.

By Sea

The nearest port is Fishguard, a 40-minute drive away, where you can catch a ferry to Rosslare, Ireland most days.

We’re the proud owners of this cherished retreat. Our love for this piece of rural West Wales has been a lifelong affair, leading us to make Golwg y Cwm a home away from home for lots of families to enjoy. Drawn by its rich history and undeniable charm, we embarked on a decade-long journey to meticulously renovate this barn, designing it with timeless traditions and modern-day comforts combined.

As parents of three busy children – Isaac, Lleucu, and Grug – and our beloved dog Beca, we understand exactly what families need, and have built a place where they can truly relax, indulge in one another's company and weave memories that last a lifetime. We’re excited to share the warmth and tranquility of Golwg y Cwm with you.

Owner recommendations

There are lots of award-winning beaches worth checking out. Our favourites include Llangrannog, Aberporth, Mwnt or New Quay.
Enjoy fish and chips at The Celtic in Aberaeron. A family favourite, this charming seaside spot serves up the best fish and chips, perfect after a day exploring the colourful streets of Aberaeron. The picturesque harbour town is also great for crabbing, making it a fun outing for all ages!
On a rainy day, you can head to Folly Farm Adventure Park with it’s indoor play area. If the weather clears, or for those who are hardy enough, there’s animals and fun fair rides there too.
We occasionally offer tractor rides for children (and adults who are young at heart!) – a unique way to see the local countryside.
Make time to explore Cardigan. A charming market town with unique shops, cosy cafes, and scenic views along the River Teifi. For history and culture, visit the castle and beautiful gardens, or catch a show at Theatr Mwldan.
Visit the historic St Davids – the smallest city in the UK, home to an awe-inspiring cathedral and quaint streets.
