Just 20 minutes walk from the characterful town of Alájar, hidden in a tree-covered valley, Molino Río Alájar offers guests a taste of rural living. The six houses, built of local stone, stand on raised ground on the right bank of the river, boasting commanding views over the valley and surrounding hills. Spread out across the expansive site, guests share facilities such as the pool and tennis court – but each cottage has its own terrace, providing a sense of privacy and peace.
Each house has a lounge with a kitchen-diner, decorated with locally crafted and antique furniture. Underfloor heating and a hearth or woodburner provide cosiness in winter, while air-con keeps things comfortabe in summer. In every cottage, the bedrooms are simple and rustic with colourful bedlinen, and are equipped with air conditioning to ensure comfortable sleeping. Medium-sized ensuite bathrooms have pretty hand-painted sinks and Moroccan-style rain showers - one cottage has a bath.
Bed linen and towels are provided but do take spare towels for swimming.
Equipment for babies and young children such as cots, high chairs and blankets for the lawn are also available free of charge.
Casa la Tortuga is the largest cottage, sleeping up to five guests in a double and triple room, each with the luxury of their own bathroom. A large bay window floods the open-plan living space with natural light and offers views over the lawn to the hills beyond.
El Conejo sleeps 6, where the ground floor ensuite double also enjoys its own separate access to a terrace boasting exceptional views over the gardens. Also downstairs, you’ll find an open-plan living dining room, kitchen and the family bathroom. Two twin rooms share a bathroom upstairs.
Of a similar size, La Cigüeña’s ensuite double bedroom is set to the side of the house with a separate entrance and a quirky hatch through the wall connecting it to the main house – this is one well suited for families with older, independent children. Again there are two twin rooms above the downstairs living area. The terrace to the front of La Cigüeña is beautiful; you’ll never want to leave it.
In Casa la Águila the double bedroom is connected by a spiral staircase to a mezzanine with beds for two children. The bathroom has a full size bath perfect for bathing little ones. It also boasts a cosy fireplace and underfloor heating in the charming living area.
La Zoya has underfloor heating throughout, a generous living area with a fireplace and French windows opening onto a delightful terrace featuring citrus trees and a view over the vegetable patch. Both the double and twin rooms have their own bathrooms.
Finally, the smallest of the cottages is El Buho, sleeping two in a studio-style open plan living-bedroom. There is an ensuite bathroom, a fully-equipped kitchen and a lovely terrace. It’s perfect for grandparents wanting to join in the holiday fun.
