South Coombe Country Cottages is one of those places you feel joyous to have stumbled across but ideally strive to keep this holiday gem a well-kept secret. You will find a peaceful, car-free environment with everything you need for an idyllic escape. Discover the paddocks, orchard, and the gentle stream which forms the northerly border of South Coombe, where the banks form a sun trap and are ideal for an impromptu picnic. Ducks can be fed down at the pond (both duck ponds are fenced) and you’ll find paths around the grounds to explore with seats to enjoy the views! Children have their own outdoor adventure play ground with swings, slide and climbing frame set in the beautiful orchard. You have 15 acres to relish, perfect for wind down quality family time.
All six cottages are beautifully converted from original farm buildings and are grouped around the picture perfect thatched Devon longhouse in the middle of 15 acres of grounds. The farmhouse dates back to the sixteen hundreds and was once owned by The Earl of Portsmouth. The 18th century former barns have been renovated and converted to a high standard, each has its own style and character; Oak beams and wood burning stoves combine with modern kitchens and bathrooms to create exceptionally comfortable family homes. Each cottage has its own private outdoor space and DVD players, flat screen TVs and wifi.
Leave the baby and toddler kit at home - cots, high chairs, bottle sterilizers, changing mats, potties, baby bouncers, baby Bumbos, baby baths, and sink steps are available free-of-charge, upon request.
Blackout blinds are standard in children’s rooms to help everyone get a good night’s sleep, and nightlights can also be provided. There is a babysitting service (all babysitters have DBS certificates) by prior arrangement.
Jonquil Cottage (sleeps 3) is a charming and characterful 2 bedroomed cottage which has been converted from the old hayloft. Perfect for couples or small families.
Drake’s Cottage (sleeps 4) is a light and airy 2 bedroomed cottage with a large open-plan sitting, dining and kitchen area with patio doors leading to the garden.
Saffi’s Cottage (sleeps 5) is a beautiful cottage with 3 bedrooms (1 downstairs with en-suite) converted from the old stables.
Tilly’s Cottage (sleeps 6) is a 3 bedroomed wheelchair friendly cottage with 1 of the en-suite bedrooms being downstairs.
Orchard Cottage (sleeps 6) is a stunning 3 bedroomed restoration of the former cart-house. Oak beams, fabulous views - a real gem.
Tike’s Cottage (sleeps 10) combines Tilly’s & Drake’s cottages to provide a large 5 bedroomed home, with beautiful beams and wood burning stoves.
The Merino Shepherds Hut (sleeps 2) is perfect for a luxury romantic getaway with en-suite shower room and toilet, high end appliances and a smart TV. There’s also a beautiful glass roof panel above the bed for star-gazing, a private garden and hot tub
