About this place

Best bits

  • Explore the hotel’s extensive grounds and discover the trampoline or stretch your legs with a family game of tag.
  • Hotel staff can provide a baby listening service (or book you a babysitter), leaving you free to enjoy some leisurely, adult-only candlelit fine dining in the Orangery restaurant.
  • If you’ll be out exploring the idyllic local area during the daytime, restaurant staff will be happy to pack you a picnic or suggest some fantastic local eateries to try.

Top tips

  • For older kids and teens, the Hen House is a hide out with air hockey, table football, and pool table, where they can hang out independently.
  • 90-minutes complimentary childcare is provided for each day of your stay for kids up to eight years old. Remember to book ahead if you’d like to take advantage of a little child free time.
  • Visit the hotel’s walled garden and see where vegetables are grown - and don’t forget to say hello to the resident animals.

We arrived frazzled to be greeted by a beautiful building, smiling faces, warmth from fabulously, naturally scented logs felled from the estate and an almost immediate pot of coffee accompanied by fab biscuits and juice for the girls - perfect. It wasn't long before we were relaxing in one of the lovely lounges of deliberately faded grandeur and the kids were enjoying some much needed run about time in the open space out front. We enjoyed excellent, fun child care, I enjoyed the best massage I ever had and we (him and I) enjoyed delicious grown-up dining after the kids had scoffed high tea. We loved this place x

Owner recommendations

  • Within easy strolling distance of Bradford-on-Avon, you won’t have to stray far from Woolley Grange to discover historic towns, rolling countryside and a variety of days out for the family.

  • Staff are always on hand to give an insider’s guide to the local area, from their favourite walks along the Kennet and Avon Canal to specialist craft shops in the National Trust village of Lacock.

  • Just eight miles on, and a pretty train ride from Bradford-on-Avon, is the World Heritage City of Bath, with its Roman Baths, sweeping Georgian crescents, magnificent abbey and rich calendar of cultural events. Enjoy the sights on a boat trip along the river, or get up high and enjoy a bird’s eye view of the city on a hot air balloon ride.

  • Harking back to Roman times, Bradford-on-Avon is steeped in fascinating history and architecture. A town that grew up around a thriving wool industry, its narrow streets – now home to an array of boutique shops and independently owned restaurants – emanate from the iconic Norman bridge across the River Avon.

  • The surrounding countryside, as well as offering Wiltshire’s only 36-hole golf course at Cumberwell Park, has plenty of outdoor family activities to be enjoyed. Cycle along the Kennet and Avon Canal, come face-to-face with the jungle at Longleat Safari and Adventure Park, and visit an abundance of National Trust properties with activities and attractions for all ages.
