Borgo Pignano is an estate with a colossal amount of space, It's where you come to step out of the metropolis and find some peace and tranquility. The children are taken care of during the summer months - staff are on hand to encourage children's natural creativity, whether it be outside play, building dens in the woodland, painting or creating dyes using the flowers and spices grown on site. It's a hearty approach to children's play and that can only be a good thing. A small swimming pool has been built for children under twelve years. There are stables on site for horse riding, beginners are welcome. The larger pool is surrounded by a large terrace with loungers and parasols conveniently near to the outdoor bar. Guided tours will give you a behind scenes view of the farm and the positive approach to organic production, you will see beehives, collect honey, find out what's growing in the vegetable and herb gardens and marvel at the beauty of the traditional English gardens.Yoga and pilates sessions take place. Guests often get seduced by the area's outstanding beauty and take up painting to capture the moment, artists supplies are available at the villa. Discover the traditional Tuscan way of baking bread and pizza with an onsite cooking class and wine tasting are on offer. There is a spa and wellbeing centre and a fitness studio and mountain bikes are availalbe for guests to use.
Take a break from self catering. There is a relaxed alfresco dining setting or a more formal dining experience. Both will showcase the quality of the home grown or locally sourced food. There isn't a specific children's menu but the staff will gladly prepare something suitable, failing that there is always stone baked pizzas.
The 18th century villa, perched on a hilltop with sensational views of the olive groves and sprawling Tuscan countryside, is the heart of the accomodation. The villa houses 14 en-suite rooms, all elegantly furnished with a rustic Tuscan touch, some with original frescoes. Dotted around the ancient hamlet are the maisonettes and cottages which are recommended for families with children. Some have have full kitchens, some have two levels, some have lakes, some have trees - all are charming, elegantly appointed and very comfortable. Fresh flowers, organic berries and bottles water are left for guests arrival. Free wifi in all accomodation. Blackout curtains in all properties to ensure full on rest!
14 ensuite rooms/suites contained in the villa - some rooms are able to take extra beds for a charge or a cot.
5 maisonettes all of which have kitchen facilities including, oven, hob, dishwasher, mini fridge, sink, kettle and coffee machines.
Il Granaio -2 bedrooms, comfortable living space, dining room and kitchenette facilities. Bedrooms, one with a queen bed and one with double bed, both are en-suite. There is a private terrace overlooking the medieval town of Volterra and the countryside.
Il Pozzo - 2 bedrooms, spacious and set over three floors there is a living room and dining room with full kitchen facilities, a wood burning stove and a bathroom on the ground floor. Twin bedroom with ensuite on the second level and queen bed with ensuite on the third level. There is a covered area for al-fresco dining with views of the hilltop fort Casole d’Elsa
Il Fienile - 2 bedrooms, the master bedroom has an ensuite and a little balcony overlooking the grounds, the second room has twin beds. There is kitchenette with a large living and dining area.
Il Piccionaia - 2 bedroom and a tatami. Set over two floors, the living space and full kitchen are on the first floor along with a bathroom. The large master bedroom with ensuite, a single room, a loft space with a tatami and a pocket balcony are found on the second floor. Guests can enjoy a shared al-fresco lounge and dining area.
La Legnaia - 1 bedroom, living area and a fully equipped corner kitchen are on the ground floor. A queen bed, an ensuite bathroom and a small private terrace are situated on the first floor.
Casa Del Lago Cottage - 2 bedrooms. A delightful cottage with a covered porch set in a secluded wooded area of the hamlet. The kitchen, living and dining areas are on the ground floor. Two double bedrooms with queen sized beds shared bathroom facilities are on the first floor, with a small balcony.
The Artist House - 2 bedrooms. Tucked away amongst the oak and the beech trees a short walk from the main villa. On the ground floor there is a bedroom with a double bed and a large walk in shower, living and dining areas with a fully equipped kitchen. The master bedroom can be found on the second floor with an ensuite bathroom and a terrace. The cottage is near to a small natural lake so be aware if taking toddlers.
La Fonte - 7 bedrooms. Perfect for large family gatherings. All bedrooms have queen beds, five feature a loft with tatamis. Seven bathrooms, spacious living and dining areas and an outside wood burning fire. An outside covered porch area has views over the natural lake. An exclusive swimming pool is planned. La Canonica - 3 bedrooms or 2 seperate suites. Shared hallway, sitting room, separate tv room, full kitchen, refectory style table. The bedrooms are located on the upper floor. A vine draped courtyard garden provides a wonderful spot for morning coffee or pre dinner drinks.
With such a vast estate and fabulous facilities, it's unlikely that you’ll want to venture to far but should you want to discover the local area and give the children something to talk about at school head out to the medieval towns, visit Roman remains, thermal springs, ruins and tombs, palaces and weekly markets. Pisa, Siena and Florence are within an hour drive and offer some great Italian history and culture. Nature parks can be reached by foot or mountain bike.
Borgo Pignano is a great escape from the everyday rat race. Bring the children for some quality 'r and r' in truly beautiful surroundings.
Whilst Borgo Pignano welcome children of all ages it recommends children between age 3 and 14.
