About Hameau de Montengrand

Hameau De Montengrand is a beautiful cottage complex set within meadows and countryside – the perfect place to relax and unwind from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

The Away with the Kids review

With its own private (heated) swimming pool, overlooking the Pyrenees in France, Montengrand is a small, tranquil, hamlet close to the medieval town of Mirepoix with it’s bustling French cafes and restaurants, centred around the town square. Whilst beaches can be reached in just over an hour, there is a lake ideal for swimming just down the road and the area itself is drenched in French history with castles and forts aplenty.

The five stone cottages have been individually and sympathetically restored with the original exposed beams and whitewashed walls. They have been furnished to a high standard with an eclectic mix of new and old. Big, comfortable beds with Egyptian cotton bedding, fluffy white towels, log burners, private decked terraces with BBQ areas, all five cottages have the feeling of luxury whilst remaining cosy.

The owners have really thought about families with the cottages having the practicalities of high chairs, cots, stair gates, sterilizers, toy boxes, TV and DVD libraries and even wifi.

Fresh bread and croissants can be delivered each morning for breakfast and home cooked meals made for you if you don’t fancy cooking. You can arrange to have your shopping delivered before you arrive or for the local farm to provide produce during your stay.

The children can splash about in the pool, become a cowboy (or girl) on the wooden fort, dress up in the tipi, play ball games or table tennis, help tend the farm animals (chickens, guinea pigs, ponies and sheep), enjoy the open space and make friends. Tired and exhilarated, they can end the day making their own pizza in the outdoor wood-burner or toasting marshmallows on the open fire, and Mum and Dad can enjoy the honesty bar in the barn which has beer on tap.

A beautiful place to stay where children can be children and parents can just get away from it all.
