Lucknam Park Hotel & Spa

Child friendly hotel, Wiltshire – Colerne Chippenham, Wiltshire

About Lucknam Park Hotel & Spa

Decadent, luxurious, quintessentially English; Lucknam is a treat.  And such civilised fun we had - Cluedo in the library, a hack around the grounds, swimming in the indoor pool and lounging in the outdoor gorgeously hot pool - and Lottie's highlight, cookery school led by Kesh, the most charming and smiley cook ever, who taught her skills resulting in the creation of muffins, icing, pancakes and the BEST chocolate sauce ever - not all sweet stuff - she made delicious fresh pasta and sauce too.

The latest addition to Lucknam Park’s comprehensive range of family facilities is ‘The Hideaway’. The converted cottage, just a short walk from the hotel, offers a variety of games and activities for all age groups. Spread across two floors, the cottage is a child’s dream come true, offering a games room with an interactive floor, soft play area, water room, arts & crafts area, role-play room, table-tennis and a quiet lounge area – perfect for story time. This fabulous facility is free to use for all hotel residents and is open 7 days a week (children must be accompanied by an adult).

Lucknam Park is a beautiful and luxurious retreat where every family member will be made to feel welcome, relaxed and a little bit spoilt. With just 42 gorgeous rooms, plus a luxury cottage, the feel here is of a quintessentially English country house - with wonderful extras.

Fantastic 5 star facilities for all the family (and yes - even your gadget obsessed teens!) include a chic spa, play areas, tennis courts, swimming pool, football pitch and croquet lawn.  Michelin-starred Restaurant Hywel Jones serves beautiful seasonal food, making use of the kitchen garden - and children over 5 can also enjoy this special experience. There are superb activities on-site for everyone including horse riding, cycling, and cookery courses for all the family. All of this set in 500 acres picture perfect parkland and gardens in which to unwind and explore.

The Hotel Rooms

Each of the 42 hotel rooms has been individually styled combining antique furniture with contemporary touches. Enjoy 24 hour room service, flat screen TVs, Bluetooth Digital Radio and wifi throughout. King-sized, twin or four-poster beds are all made up with sumptuous egyptian cotton linens.  Bathrooms are beautiful and luxury bathrobes and slippers will be there for you to snuggle up in. Some rooms have walk in showers and seating areas.

Choose from Park rooms or Cottage Suites, or for added luxury book a Grand Courtyard or Grand Master Suite. All of these have options for interconnecting rooms and/or additional beds and cots. Luxury hospitality extends to four-legged family members with some of the rooms being (more than) dog-friendly with toys, treats, water/food bowls, bedding, fleeces, towels, torches and a lead all available.

The Keeper’s Cottage

This luxurious stone cottage is set within the grounds of the estate, and is a haven for those who prefer the privacy to indulge in quiet family time yet with the services and facilities of the hotel. There are 3 en-suite bedrooms all with Smart TVs, sleeping up to 6, with gorgeous linens changed daily. Downstairs there is a fully-equipped handbuilt country kitchen with range cooker, relaxing lounge, and dining room with doors out to the garden. Oh, and its own helicopter landing! The cottage is dog-friendly and full use of all the hotel facilities, concierge service, room service and access to the grounds is included.

Families who like active breaks will love Lucknam Park. The excellent equestrian centre offers pony rides for little ones, hacks on the estate, and cross country jump courses. Around the estate you’ll find 2 all-weather floodlit tennis courts, an all-weather football pitch, croquet lawn and you can borrow bikes and trailers to explore the 500 acres of pristine parkland. Energetic families can pre-book a number of activities including tennis coaching, falconry, clay pigeon shooting and archery.

Gentler adventures come in the form of cookery courses including sessions for parents and children aged 6-13, plus there’s an outdoor adventure play area, bug hunts and walking trails - little wellies provided! The stunning spa offers treatments (including mini treats for the over 8s), indoor pool, hydrotherapy pool with views over the arboretum, and a range of thermal cabins. There’s also a fitness suite and outdoor gym if you feel the need to rectify any indulgence from the restaurant!

Lucknam Park enjoys an exceptional location, just a few miles from Bath with easy access to some of the best attractions in England. Take an amazing trip in the Wiltshire countryside at Longleat Safari Park, or head into Bath itself and visit The Roman Baths - one of greatest religious spas of the ancient World.

Just 9 miles from the hotel, enjoy a day watching top international riders battle it out at Badminton Horse Trials. For days exploring the outdoors head to Cotswold Water Park -  spread over 40 square miles of countryside it offers something for everyone. Wookey Hole is one of Britain’s most spectacular showcases, with many activities and exhibitions, and home of the infamous Witch of Wookey.

Food & Drink

One of the main draws for visitors to Lucknam is Restaurant Hywel Jones. Open for Sunday lunch, and evening dinners on Wednesday to Sunday, this Michelin-starred restaurant is the ultimate in culinary excellence with food to die for and an impressive wine list. Children over the age of 5 are welcome early evening when a reduced menu is offered.

The Brasserie provides a less formal, but no less delicious dining experience, and is open all day and offers children’s menus. Room service is available 24 hours a day, and you can even pamper your pooch with food from the special doggie room service menu.

Guests staying at the Keeper’s Cottage will receive a welcome basket with essentials (including Champagne).

Kids & Parents

From interconnecting rooms, to the chance to experience fine-dining, cookery courses and spa treatments, children are truly welcomed at Lucknam Park. However if you want to indulge in some child-free time then make use of the option to book nannies and babysitters. The concierge service is fab for restaurant bookings as well as spa treatments and horse riding. Try and book before arrival as these do get booked up quickly. The gorgeous grounds including a walled garden, rose garden, kitchen garden and acres of parkland perfect for walking, cycling and family bug hunts.

The Hideaway is a converted cottage that’s the perfect place to spend some time as a family - even tricky tweens and teens will be happy here! You’ll find something for everyone including arts and crafts, baby sensory area, role-play room with dressing up, mini playhouse and shop, Quiet Room with books, jigsaws and board games, a Techno Space with games console, plus a games room with table tennis and table football.
