One Cat Farm

Child friendly glamping, Ceredigion

About One Cat Farm

Set within a glorious, wooded valley and just five minutes from the beach, One Cat Farm is a small glamping site offering four unique eco-cabins that are perfect for those of you who need a little luxury in your life. Jessie and Lyndon run the site with their young children - their goal was to provide eco-friendly family holidays that are easy.  They achieved it.  You’ll find the combination of comfy beds, hotel bedding, camp-fires, hammocks, outdoor cooking, starry nights, wood fired baths and a dry and toasty warm cabin to escape to, even in the dark depths of winter, a most appealing prospect!

As there are just four dens there’s plenty of space for everyone. And there’s little else but the great outdoors for distraction - which for some might be a terrifying prospect but in reality no work, no wifi, no TV is something everyone should experience for AT LEAST a weekend, if not more, every year. It means time to slow down and remember what life was like before everything was expected to happen immediately. Wake up, (one of you) have a coffee in bed, perhaps light the fire, prepare breakfast, send the kids off to adventure and quietly savour your surroundings - it’s good for the soul!

Accommodation:

The eco-dens (designed and built by Lyndon) are stuffed with insulation and feature double-glazing and electric heating to keep you cosy in winter and cool in summer. The turf roof means your den blends into the environment and it keep things quiet if the weather outside gets blustery - they really are a year round retreat.

The den interiors are decorated in a lovely, simple Nordic style and have a flexible layout that’s perfect for families. The prospect of the double bed, with it’s good sprung mattress, crisp linen, thick duvet and wool blanket will keep you going through the day! There are two single beds which are low and suitable for very small children - these can be transformed into a day bed or sofa during the day - whilst travel cots are available for babies/toddlers. A fold down table, stackable stools, wood-burner, simple shelving and storage, mirror, dustpan and brush and hooks are your additional essentials. Lighting is electric and there is a socket.

All bedding is supplied for the double bed whilst sheets and pillows are supplied for the singles, so either bring a sleeping bag or duvet – otherwise single duvets can be booked as extra.  A welcome gift of freshly made bread and flowers picked from the site will be waiting for your arrival.

Especially For Children

There is a baby changing table, toddler loo seats and anti-slip mats in the showers.  High-chairs, children's cutlery and crockery are all supplied in the kitchen.

Facilities

The Pig Shed houses the communal kitchen and bathrooms and is the natural place to gather on site.

There are two bathrooms at one end where you will find hot water available - always! Hand towels, eco friendly hand soap, shower gel, shampoo and conditioner are all supplied.  There are two flushing loos and two large shower rooms with large shower cubicles, making it easier to keep the kids clean – if you can be bothered!

At the other of the Pig Shed you will find the big kitchen which has two four-ring hobs, a large fridge, sharp knives and a coffee percolator - as well as a huge dining table that seats 18 - all in all the space to prepare family meals and drinks and get to know your fellow campers.

A sofa and wood burner with board games, books and loads of local info and maps offer space for some communal relaxation.

What's to Do?

The dens live within a 3-acre meadow overlooking wildlife ponds. Your children will undoubtedly love the freedom to just roam. Together though you might take out the rowing boat, go pond dipping, arrange a scavenger hunt, fly a kite, spot wildlife (otters, hedgehogs and red kites are to be found), take the torch and go on a night walk with new friends met on site, learn campfire skills, learn about the night sky using the star map, play board games, rounders and generally tire yourselves out.  Or someone might collapse into a hammock with a book…

Alternatively go on a family walk and ask Jessie to point you in the direction of the waterfall hidden in a bluebell woodland or the old abandoned house where you'll enjoy views down the Aeron Valley towards the sea and Cardigan Bay.

Days Out:

One Cat Farm is 3 miles from the gorgeous beaches of Cardigan Bay where, even in the height of summer, it is possible to find an empty sandy beach to yourself if you don’t mind a walk. Dolphins, porpoise and seals are established in the bay and can be spotted from the shore. Otherwise get closer and take any of the boat trips leaving the bay. Inland you might head to the Cambrian mountains - wild, empty, unpopulated space that you can explore all day and barely see another soul.

There’s a hidden walled garden in a forest with a playground and a stream running through less than 5 minutes in the car away, as is Llanerchaeron. a National Trust property with a working farm, manor house and park and woodland to roam in.  The pretty harbour town of Aberaeron is also just 3 miles away.

Jessie’s Paragraph:

In winter we will put the heating and lights on ready for you and in summer we will hang up the hammock.  All you need to do is unpack the car and move in!  Light up the camp-fire decide where to have dinner (cook in the pig shed or cook over your fire?) watch the sun set and the stars come out.  Crawl into your bed and enjoy the blissful silence.  Wake up to the sound of birds singing, open the curtains and watch the clouds and the red kites soaring overhead. Take tea and toast on the veranda in the morning sun and plan your day.  Will it be beach or forest?
