Woolley Grange - a luxury family hotel

Child friendly hotel, Wiltshire – Woolley Green, Bradford-on-Avon, Wiltshire

About Woolley Grange - a luxury family hotel

The first “country house hotel of its kind to openly welcome children”, Woolley Grange was a family home for 400 years before becoming the first Luxury Family Hotel in 1989. It is a strikingly beautiful Jacobean Manor House standing within 14 acres of grounds on the outskirts of the medieval wool town of Bradford-on-Avon in Wiltshire and it still feels like a home, a welcoming one at that. A fabulously child-friendly hotel, Woolley has a refined, elegant and very relaxed atmosphere that will enable you all to enjoy your surroundings around the house, in the grounds or the outdoor pool. The Spa though is for grown-up treats whilst the little ones enjoy some fun supervised time in the creche!

The Away with the Kids review

We arrived frazzled from a too long ‘short' journey to be greeted by a beautiful building, smiling faces, warmth from fabulously, naturally scented logs felled from the estate and an almost immediate pot of coffee accompanied by fab biscuits and juice for the girls - perfect. And it wasn't long before we were relaxing in one of the lovely lounges of deliberately faded grandeur and the kids were enjoying some much needed run about time in the open space out front.

The Luxury Family Hotel ethos is to provide a balance to enable you all to have a holiday with no compromise; therefore it's possible to have a fun, relaxed family time or enjoy time out as a couple, or alone, whilst the kids get to have the time of their lives - all within the grounds - not bad eh?

The knowledge that the kids are so genuinely welcomed immediately gives you great freedom to enjoy the hotel - no worrying that Bill comes pegging it through the door with a wood louse (as long as he takes it out again), no worrying that Lili won't eat her dinner without airplane noises - "Been there, done that" tolerance is the key and Woolley will have witnessed it, no doubt!

So what to do? Chill out with a magazine and a glass of wine (at the moment just that sounds so decadent!), escape to the luxurious spa for a supreme pamper, take a snack to the poolside and enjoy the fun there? Get a board game and chill out in front of the fire .....

Meanwhile the kids could be in the Woolley Bears Den which provides supervised activities, toys, books, games and adventures to keep them happy. It is a fabulously friendly crèche in which the girls were kept supremely busy - they loved it. The den is open from 9:30a.m. to 5:30p.m. daily. For older kids the Hen House houses a pool table, air hockey, table football and the almost expected electronic games to keep them occupied. Again the Hen House is open daily but is unsupervised. Other facilities include a lovely outdoor pool to brave (it is heated throughout the year), or to cool down in (I forgot we are getting a summer this year), a trampoline to boing on and enough grounds to play a proper game of tag.

All 26 bedrooms are individually styled and are very lovely. Do note that some are smaller than others so be clear on how much room you would like when booking; you will be considerately advised of your best options. Suites are available as are interconnecting rooms; some double rooms can quite easily house a cot.

As for food Head Chef, Mark Bradbury, serves up "contemporary international trends" that complement the very best of British flavours. The food is excellent - some of which is supplied via the Hotel's Organic Kitchen Garden. A children's menu is available in the Orangery for lunch; just ask if you require puree or need to heat your own baby food or if you simply need a snack. Children's High Tea is served in the Orangery from 5:30pm each day (to be ordered in the Den by 4 p.m.). Older children can choose from their own menu for Tea at 6pm in the Orangery, where you may enjoy a family meal or else a civilized G & T whilst planning what to eat at dinner later once the baby listening service is arranged.
