Along with its excellent coastal location, the spacious house benefits from great sea views, a generous private garden (complete with covered terrace and a slide!) and bright, beautifully decorated interiors. With all home comforts covered, all you need to do is pack your swimmers and prepare to relax.

The location – just 30 steps from the seafront. Kids and parents alike will love rolling out of bed and straight onto the huge sandy beaches of Filey.

The spacious garden is a great feature. Bask in sea views from the comfort of a covered patio while the kids happily play on the slide.

Top tips

Bring your swimming gear; include jelly shoes, buckets and fishing nets. For quick dashes to the beach and exploring life-filled rockpools.
There is no private, allocated parking at the house. But free parking can be found at a first-come-first-served basis on the seafront and in town.

Beach Approach House is a spacious family holiday home ideal for families of up to six looking for a Yorkshire bolthole. On the ground floor of the stunning three-bedroom property you’ll find an immaculate kingsize bedroom decorated with subtle nautical touches. Upstairs there’s a bright superking size master with an ensuite shower room and a twin bedroom with bespoke fitted storage that is perfect for kids (and all the paraphernalia that comes along with them!). A large family bathroom is equipped with a delightfully deep free-standing bath and walk-in shower. The pebble-effect flooring is a quirky finish that almost has you thinking you’re still at the beach. Without a doubt, one of the best features of Beach Approach House is the expansive, tiered garden. Walk back out the front door to enjoy sea views and fresh sea air. Kids will adore zipping down the built-in slide, parents will love the landscaped garden with two patios so you can chase the sun.
In addition to the garden and bedrooms, the house has a dining hall and a generous kitchen, with a serene lounge through a set of French doors. A second, smaller lounge is often taken over as the kids domain. Offering teens or older children space to enjoy some peace and privacy of their own. Alternatively, set up little ones in front of something suited to their taste whilst you relax or socialise in the kitchen-living room. Both living room areas are equipped with Smart TVs for family film nights. When the beach or countryside is combined with kids, access to a washing machine is not to be underestimated. And you’ll find one at Beach Approach House. Chuck swimmers or muddy adventuring clothes in to clean before you head home. Other amenities include an iron, hairdry and wifi. Towels and bed linen are provided. But if you want extra towels for salty, sandy beach days, it is worth packing some.

Eat

Located at the front of the house, Beach Approach House has a kitchen with a view. In fact, the Belfast sink is so placed, that washing up involves an excellent view of the sea. That said, a dishwasher keeps washing up to a minimum. Modern appliances, an electric aga and hob, a microwave, separate fridge and freezer and lots of pots, pans and crockery make cooking a treat. Family meals can be enjoyed in the dining hall which is furnished with a timber dining table, easily seating six. For those visiting during warmer months, al fresco dining is made possible with sets of dining furniture, found on both the garden patios. Supplies can be picked up in the local Spar; located on the high street, just a 10 minute walk away. But for more choice, a larger Tesco is just a 20 minute walk or five minute drive from the house.

If you fancy a night off cooking, there are numerous restaurants, bars and cafes within walking distance. Filey is packed with excellent family-friendly options. San Marco is an Italian restaurant serving up pizza and pasta that is always ready to welcome children. And of course, no trip to the Yorkshire coast is complete without a fish and chip supper, best tucked into on the beach. Don’t forget to ask for the regional delicacy of scraps – pieces of deep-fried batter sprinkled over your chips. Foodies might also want to book their trip to coincide with Filey’s International Food Festival. The bustling event sees over 80 food and drink vendors set up and sell their wares. You’ll find local produce, artisan products and lots of tasty treats to try.

Activities

Nobody visits Filey without spending time on the beach. Whatever the season, the expansive sands are perfect for beach walks, sand castle creations and exploring rockpools teeming with life. Flanked by the promenade, you’ll find benches with a view, amusement arcades and classic seaside treats by their bucketload – fish and chips, ice cream and maybe even a stick of rock. Depending on the season, you can also enjoy a spot of surfing; with lessons for beginners available in nearby Cayton Bay. If hiking is your family’s bag, the famous Cleveland Way, a jaw-dropping 109 mile route along the North Yorkshire coast, passes through Filey. Whilst we don’t suggest dragging the kids along the whole route – there is breathtaking scenery and excellent picnic spots to be found along the footpaths to neighbouring Scarborough, or on the clifftop walk to Primrose Valley. The North Yorks Moors National Park is just half an hour from the house too, if a picturesque countryside walk is what you fancy. Or bring your bikes and explore the rolling heather-covered hills on two wheels.

For a spot of culture, take a visit to Sewerby Hall and Gardens with a small museum set in an fabulous old stately home, magnificent gardens and a zoo that kids will love. The Filey Museum is packed with local history and is also worth checking out. If the slow pace of birdwatching appeals, the Filey Bird Observatory and Nature Reserve is a great spot for twitchers young and old. And depending on what time of year you visit, your holiday may coincide with one of several festivals hosted in Filey – from fishing to literature to food. After fun-filled days on the beach or exploring seaside towns, there’s nothing better than returning to the cosy comfort of Beach Approach House. Cooking up feasts with the kids, sitting out in the gorgeous garden or snuggling down to a film night in front of the TV.

Beach Approach House is accessed via 30 steps up a steep footpath and therefore isn’t suited for guests with limited mobility.

Where is it and how do you get there?

By Road

Located just south of Yorkshire’s famous Scarborough, Filey is an easy 15 minute drive off the A64. Expect to travel around three hours from Liverpool and Birmingham, five from Glasgow and London or just 90 minutes from Leeds and Sheffield. There’s no private parking with the property, but free parking can be found minutes away on the seafront.

By Air

Leeds Bradford Airport and Teesside International Airport are both around a two hour drive from Filey. You can pick up a rental car easily at both.

By Rail

Filey Station is just a 10 minute walk from the property. You can grab regular services from there to Sheffild and Scarborough. From the former, you’ll find direct trains to London, Manchester and Edinburgh, amongst many more.
