This peaceful family site, right in the heart of Eskdale, caters mainly for families and groups with children. Kids will love the rafts on the pond, the tree house, zip wire and adventure playground - and later you can toast marshmallows around a campfire. The site has its own station on the fantastic Ravenglass & Eskdale Miniature Steam Railway, which little ones will love. Open from mid-March, until the last Sunday in September.

Fisherground has its own station for the Ravenglass & Eskdale Miniature Railway - it’s brilliant fun - and runs to the mainline station.

Top tips

Remember that roads can be very busy at weekends and holiday period so factor this in to your journey time.
It may be a good investment to buy your children a little wetsuit. Save on trying to dry wet clothes!

Rooms

Fisherground Campsite is set right in the heart of Eskdale, one of Cumbria's loveliest valleys. An excellent family campsite based on the West side of the Lake District that is unspoilt by tourism with some lovely scenic walks from the site. It is a 9 acre site which accepts tents, trailer tents, campervans and motorhomes. There is a range of bookable pitches from single person tents, family sized pitches and a few spaces for campervans/motor homes. There are limited EHU pitches.

The faciities block is modern, clean, airy and spacious and houses a separate family room and disabled facilities.

The laundry room has a washing machine and three tumble driers which are a mix of token or coin operated.

Alongside the dedicated outdoor wear drying room, there is also a boot drier for those of you who love walking whatever the weather.

Note: there is a minimum of 2 nights stay for weekends during the Summer Holidays and 3 nights on a Bank Holiday. This is a very popular campsite so early booking at busy periods is advised to avoid disapppointment.

Dogs are to be kept on a lead at all times and cleaned up after. They should be exercised off the site.

Eat

Enjoy a glass of wine under the stars sat around a roaring campfire. Fires must remain within the wheel rims provided, but there are plenty dotted all round the site. Firewood and kindling is available from the site.

The local village shop and post office, Eskdale Stores, is just along the way. It sells a range of goods, including groceries, fresh fruit and vegetables, food to go, alcohol and newspapers. If you are staying for a week it might be worth visiting Whitehaven for a day out and stocking up on supplies as all the big superstores can be found there.

There are lots of pubs within walking distance that are child friendly and serve excellent home cooked meals with a selection of real ales. They allow dogs in the pubs, and have lovely beer gardens.

Activities

Children can spend many fun hours on the rafting pond and you can be assured kids will get wet, muddy and cold - hence the wet suit tip! Footwear is advisable as parts of it are rocky, as is close adult supervision.

The large adventure playground is heaps of fun with a zip wire, play ship, tree house and other play equipment - it's perfect for children to make new friends and let off some steam before bedtime!

The site has direct access to its very own station on the Ravenglass & Eskdale Minature Railway. If you have little ones, or an older train enthusiast, it is worth every penny as it gives you an unrivaled view of the valley. It is 7 miles long and connects with Ravenglass mainline station.

Drigg beach is only 7 miles away, a lovely beach with miles of sand and dunes. Visit Seascale and treat yourselves to fish and chips by the beach or have a cone of award winning ice cream. Local Muncaster Castle, is a good day out with its azaleas, rhododendrons, Owl Sanctuary and birds of prey show.

The majority of the Lake District attractions are within an hours drive and the site owners are only to happy to advise where to go. Explore the valley on one of the many local walks to see the wildlife, rivers, waterfalls or wild swimming in the tarns.
