Benefiting from its own south facing patio, The Old Stable is the perfect choice for young families exploring the Isle of Wight. Or grandparents wanting to join in the fun, but have some space of their own.

Lyon Court is set up for families – no adult only groups and stacks of child-friendly credentials.
Ideally located a short walk from The Old Village, the beach, and with nothing on the island more than 30 minutes drive away, you can fit as much as you want into every day.
The kids play area is great, with a play house for imaginative play, and swings, slide and climbing frame to burn off some energy.

The Old Stable at Lyon Court is a cosy studio apartment made for young families. It sleeps two in a double bed, but there’s room for little ones in a cot. It’s also a fabulous option for grandparents wanting to join in the fun at Lyon Court but appreciating the space and peace of their own accommodation.

The Old Stables has its own discrete south facing patio, gorgeous wooden floors, a super comfortable double bed and sofa, plus bright interiors. Enjoy cosy evenings-in with your own TV and Netflix, Amazon and Apple TV. Lyon Court has four holiday apartments available, including some sleeping up to eight – you can find them all on Away with the Kids.

Eat

The kitchen is fully equipped with everything you could need. There’s a table for inside dining, but al fresco eating is a must. The suntrap south facing patio has an electric barbecue available for your use May to September. Make the most of the communal fire pit too with toasted marshmallows and sharing stories.

Nearby Shanklin has a range of supermarkets and shops where you can pick up supplies. Or if you fancy a night off cooking, there are a number of lovely local restaurants and pubs perfect for family dining. And you absolutely cannot miss an ice cream on the beach – try Small Hope.

Activities

Lyon Court is the perfect place for gentle and relaxed family fun. Splash about in the outdoor pool, heated to a balmy 28 degrees, relax in the landscaped garden, or grab a book and a sun lounger and let the kids explore the play area. The apartment is also perfectly located for heading out and exploring all that the Isle of Wight has to offer.

There is an abundance of beaches to check out. With beach huts, sandcastles and cafes to ensure hours of fun. The coast is also great to explore by foot or on your bike – active families, this place is for you! Alternatively, soak up some culture by visiting during the festival season. There's the ever popular IOW festival in June, Rhythm Tree Festival in July, Fair-weather festival in August and the famous Cowes week.

The Old Stable is single storey, there is no stepped access and you can park on the same level.

Where is it and how do you get there?

By Road

There are car ferry crossings from Portsmouth, Lymington and Southampton. Lyon Court is less than a half hour drive from the main ferry ports on the island.

By Air

Southampton and Bournemouth are the nearest commercial airports.

By Rail

Shanklin Station is less than a mile away with a service to and from Ryde Pier head every 30 mins.

If you have any issues during your stay, we are available and happy to assist. Other than that, we try to keep out of your way so that you can enjoy your stay, without feeling overlooked.

Owner recommendations

Animal lovers will enjoy a trip to Monkey Haven – a primate rescue centre that also has lots of other exoctic creatures to visit.
Being an island there are plenty of family friendly beaches to enjoy – try Small Hope Beach at Shanklin.
Head to Bembridge Lane End beach for rock pooling and shrimping.
Blackgang Chine, the Island's premier theme park, is a great day out.
Board a vintage steam locomotive for a special journey on the Isle Of Wight Steam Railway.
