Moonfleet’s friendly staff will be happy to provide all baby bits you may need – so don’t worry about packing any of the usual paraphernalia.

It is a home from home, the staff are excellent, friendly and sooo helpful. The facilities for those with kids are amazing, we desperately needed some child free time and were very happy to leave our little one with the fantastic staff at the creche and enjoy a spa treatment and a quiet afternoon tea by the fire (bliss).

Rooms

With an eclectic blend of interesting luxury furnishings and stylish modernity, Moonfleet’s rooms are elegant yet cosy. Slip into a fluffy white robe and pamper yourself with Elemis toiletries.

You can enjoy generous double beds, plenty of space and the option for adjoining rooms for children. These rooms are not just for sleeping though: take a nap, read, have a soak in the bath or just sit back and watch TV.

Eat

Settle into Moonfleet’s sun soaked terrace with a glass of something cold in your hand and a plate of locally sourced seafood in front of you – and enjoy stunning the views of Chesil beach.

Food is a delectable blend of Mediterranean and British, and you’ll get to sample locally produced ingredients, such as Lyme Bay scallops and Portland crab, fresh off the boat. The terrace is a perennial suntrap, but even on more ‘British’ days, you can enjoy the fabulous views across the Fleet, cosied up inside the restaurant.

Activities

Let the kids revel in the freedom of Moonfleet, climbing trees and exploring the games and activities spread throughout the hotel’s grounds. Sit back while the little ones enjoy the sand pit and play area – or venture further afield and try rock pooling at a nearby cove.

You need never worry about the weather spoiling your fun at Moonfleet. Check out The Verandah – a huge covered space chock-full of ride-on toys, trampolines, a skittle alley, indoor football pitch and under-fives soft play area. And of course, there are three indoor pools to enjoy as a family: a safe and welcoming baby pool, a large medium pool, and the deeper, spacious family pool.

Where is it and how do you get there?

By Road

From the South accessible via the A35 for Dorchester and A354 Weymouth. From the West, take the B3157, passing through Abbotsbury.

By Air

Bournemouth airport is just over an hour’s drive away (approximately 40 miles). Exeter airport, to the west, is only a little further (just over 50 miles).

By Rail

The nearest train station is Weymouth, approximately seven miles away and from London the journey time is 2.5 hours. Taxis are available at the station if needed.

Dinosaurland is one of the best collections of fossils in the southwest. See creatures from 200 million years ago, as well as exotic exhibits from around the world. The museum’s collection includes real Chinese dinosaurs, a Russian cave bear and a 73kg lump of dinosaur dung!
On sunny days, there’s a whole coast-full of wonderful beaches to explore: nearby Weymouth is a classic seaside resort with donkey rides, deckchairs on the prom and ice cream aplenty, while there are a wealth of rocky coves and secluded beaches along the coast.
Weymouth Sea Life adventure park, with more than 1,000 creatures to discover, an amazing underwater tunnel to walk through, a rock pool adventure and children’s rides, offers a full day’s family entertainment! Visit the rainforest display and see if you can spot the blue poison dart frogs.
The famous Portland Bill lighthouse stands 153ft high at the very top of the island. Surrounded by spectacular views, it makes the perfect spot for blustery winter walks. Pop into the Trinity House visitor centre to learn more about the lighthouse keepers that once lived here.
Just 45 minutes away by car is the famed ‘Jurassic coast’, where ancient life can be glimpsed through layers of rock. Charmouth and Lyme Regis are great places to spend a day searching for fossil ammonites, sea creatures, or even a dinosaur.
