Perched at the very tip of the Great British mainland, John O'Groats by Together Travel offers true highland sanctuary at the end of the road. Accommodation can be found in the form of glass fronted lodges and contemporary apartments in the historic Inn at John O’Groats. Originally built in 1875, the Inn has existed as a hotel for decades but has been sensitively restored and extended over the past two years. The interiors combine beautifully-finished traditional features with sleek styling, in keeping with the marriage of the former hotel and its new eye-catching extension. The self-catering apartments, each with their own individual character, sleep between two and eight guests. The largest apartment boasts stunning views over the Pentland Firth and four en-suite double bedrooms. It’s a perfect option for large families or friends. There are five one-bedroom apartments sleeping up to two guests – ideal for grandparents joining in on the Scottish adventure. With the option to add a cot, they’re also the perfect set up for young families. For the best views in every direction, choose the Penthouse apartment. Finally, for families of four there are two two-ensuite bedroom apartments; the upper floor option has a fabulous double-storey window illuminating the open-plan living space and framing stunning sea views. The ground-floor option is pet-friendly and accessible, and has just as impressive sea views.
Outside of the original hotel building, situated in a grassy garden with spectacular views are a set of family-friendly luxury lodges. These purpose built homes-from-homes all sleep up to six guests in three double bedrooms. The master suite includes an ensuite with a powerful shower, whilst the other two bedrooms enjoy use of a spacious family bathroom complete with deep bubbly tub – perfect for warming up after a winter walk or a bracing summer swim. One of the double rooms can also be arranged as a twin room if required. Each lodge boasts an open plan living room and kitchen, with floor-to-ceiling sliding doors that open out onto a private decking. For those visiting during warmer months, al fresco dining and living is highly encouraged. For those visiting in the longer, cooler season, wood burners will ensure you keep cosy. Depending on what lodge you opt for, you’ll find spectacular full or partial sea and countryside views.
