Morton House and the Stable Block are two fabulously renovated 17th and 18th century stone cottages. Spacious interiors ooze character and light. Yet a cosy cottage feel is undeniable. Located at the gateway to the Yorkshire Dales, there’s no better base for exploring God’s Own County than this charming market town. Famous for it's family-run breweries, steam engines, annual sheep fair and a thriving community of creatives.

Top tips

The Stable Block has a ground floor ensuite bedroom making it a great option for grandparents or guests with limited mobility.
Don’t forget your hiking gear and waterproofs – wonderful walking routes can be enjoyed whatever the weather!
Bring your bikes to enjoy some of the Tour de Yorkshire rides. The lovely owners will gladly help with renting bikes too.

Morton House and the Stable Block is made up of two units that can be booked together or individually. The Grade II listed Morton House is a spacious property with farmhouse style family kitchen-diner with a 7ft dining table seating up to 12. There are four large bedrooms upstairs over two floors; two are ensuite and the other two share a large family bathroom. There are two large reception rooms; one with a flat screen TV, full Sky package and wood burner; the other with period Chesterfield sofas. Perfect for some quiet time.

Lovingly converted in 2006 the Victorian Stable Block, offers open plan living downstairs with a bright living-diner-kitchen. The first of three bedrooms is located downstairs and is complete with an ensuite shower room. Upstairs a further two bedrooms accommodated up to four more guests in a king size double and a single room with additional pull out. There is a shared shower room too. Underfloor heating throughout the ground floor making it cosy and the perfect spot for relaxing after a day exploring Yorkshire.

Eat

Each property has a fully equipped kitchen with an oven, hob, microwave, fridge, etc. Morton House also has a dishwasher, seven foot dining table, two under bench fridges in the centre island and additional fridge/freezer space in the utility area. It’s kitted out for large dinner parties and special occasions. Outside you’ll find a gas barbecue and seating areas so summer visitors can enjoy al fresco dining.

There are wonderful local shops and a bi-weekly market where you can pick up supplies. Two local butchers will cut your meat to order and the grocer next door can provide your fresh fruit and veg. Or do an online supermarket order to arrive when you do! If you fancy eating out there are five pubs, three cafes and a fine dining restaurant all in easy walking distance. Further afield, throughout the Yorkshire Dales, you can find lovely country pubs and quirky places for that special afternoon tea celebration, family lunch or early dinner.

Activities

The brilliant walled courtyard garden is gated and safe for children, meaning you can relax and socialise without worry. There is a small grassy area to kick a ball, with parks nearby if you want to really blow off some steam. Being an older house with nooks and crannies, hide and seek is always a favourite for kids staying at Morton House. The cosy feel of the property intices evenings in watching films, snacking on popcorn and just enjoying one another's company.

Off-site the list of things to do is endless. Play golf at Masham Golf Club or enjoy a day out at Thorpe Perrow Arboretum – both accessed with a Morton House pass. Close by there is the Forbidden Corner and Lightwater Valley; other great options for a family day out. You’re so well placed for numerous walks and bike rides around the Dales and the Moors. This really is a property for families who love the great outdoors and all it has to offer.

Accessibility

The Stable Block is suited to limited mobility with a double bedroom and ensuite shower room on the ground floor and patio doors onto the garden. The ground floor is open plan and single level with no steps, just the low threshold to enter.
