Full of light, space and stylish interiors, Barsham Barns combine rural peace with a jacuzzi, steam room, underfloor heating and many more luxurious touches. It doesn't get much better than this.

Best bits

Enjoy the beautiful rural location – each barn is peaceful, quiet and a great home to come home to after a country hike.
There's very little light pollution so bring a book of the night sky, lie on your back and wonder at the stars!
Take the children out at dusk towards the river bridge and look out for the barn owl hunting along the river's edge.

Top tips

Cycle hire is available locally so book early if you want to be able to explore. Or bring you're own to avoid disappointment and expense!
If you're planning to eat out in the area, please book in advance as places tend to get booked up weeks (if not months!) ahead.
Remember cold weather gear if you're planning to visit the coast. The barns are set in a sheltered area, but the sea breeze can be chilly.

We arrived at Long Meadow, Barsham Barns knowing that it was going to be good, but what we didn't expect was just how good and an absolute pleasure a stay here really is. Aggie (2) and Alfie (3) soon absconded to the toy box corner and thus proceeded to spend the next hour happily scattering toys all over the floor, finding their favourites and general being enthralled with the variety of toys.

Rooms

Each barn is stylishly decorated with colourful and contemporary touches, but keeping a cosy country charm. You will enjoy crisp, luxurious bed linen, a very well equipped kitchen, TV with DVD player and CD system. The Great East Barn is the largest and sleeps 14 guests. It can be booked with Long Meadow, that sleeps eight, to accommodate large family get-togethers of up to 22. Grey's Court sleeps ten, High Barsham sleeps 12 and Little Barsham sleeps four.

All barns at North Barsham share a spa room which can be booked for exclusive access to the luxurious jacuzzi pool or chill out in the steamroom. Also available are two games rooms, one with table tennis and darts, one with table football.

Eat

The kitchens are all very well-equipped with everything you need to cater for your family. Each barn also has a private garden with garden furniture and a BBQ – perfect for enjoying an early evening glass of wine with some garden games. If you want to eat in but kick back for the evening, you can organise for a chef to come and cook for you. Or drop off some delicious pre-cooked meals.

There are lots of great places to eat in the area, from local pubs to a Michelin starred restaurant. Norfolk is famed for it's local produce, with top quality fish, shellfish (including Cromer’s famous crabs), game and vegetables available in nearby Walsingham village farm shop.

Activities

On-site kids will love splashing around in the pool, while parents can stay on top of their fitness regime in the state of the art gym. There is an abundance of outdoor space where kids can blow off some steam, go on the search for wildlife or play hide and seek. Balbinny is also perfectly places for a tonne of all seasons children's attractions, including play barns, zoos, high ropes, steam trains, a dinosaur park, wildlife centre, swimming pools and cycling, bowling, pottery cafes, forest trails – and more.

Only five miles away from Barsham Barns, you’ll find the unspoilt Norfolk coast. Wells-next-the-Sea has beach huts, lagoons, and is the perfect beach for children to build sandcastles and play hide and seek in the dunes. Visit the sophisticated town of Burnham Market for fashion, interiors and restaurants, learn to sail and windsurf at Brancaster or take a boat trip to see the seals at Blakeney Point.

Accessibility

One of the smallest barns, Little Barsham, is all on one floor. Grey's Court is mostly on one floor, with two steps between the sitting room and kitchen, but with the option of installing a ramp when needed.

Where is it and how do you get there?

By Road

From the A148 Fakenham bypass, take B1105 following signs to Wells and after about a mile turn right at crossroads to ‘The Barshams’. Continue past farm buildings on right, through woods, along the valley until you pass a row of terrace cottages on the left.

By Air

The nearest airport is Norwich (27 miles) or Stansted (120 miles).

By Rail

King's Lynn (23 miles) or Norwich (30 miles) are the closest stations.

Anthony & Jenny

Anthony used his skills as an architect to coax some wonderful spaces out of the shell of the derelict farm buildings while Jenny acted as project manager and interior designer.

Two years later the barns emerged from the rubble and Barsham Barns was born. Headed up by Michelle, our very efficient and unflappable manager, we have a loyal and hard-working team who ensure that the barns are always in tiptop order.

Owner recommendations

Visit BeWILDerwood – roam jungle bridges, tree houses, zip wires, an amazing sky maze – experience the magic of storytelling brought to life.
Arm yourselves with crabbing kit and join the crowds on Blakeney quay hoping to catch a bucketful. Prizes for catching the most!
Take a boat trip from Morston to see the seals. Head out to Blakeney Point to see the seals flopping in and out of the water.
Enjoy a steam train ride from Sheringham to Holt, then hop on a Routemaster bus into Holt for lunch and shopping.
Spend a day on the beach at Wells-next-the-Sea and then have fish and chips on the quay in town.
Blicking Hall is an outstanding National Trust property, brimming with history and the ghost of Anne Boleyn.
